Hello Avery ProStaffers! I was just wondering what is the best all-around camo pattern for clothing and related. Like if you had to layout in a field without layout blinds, or were in a marsh. Assuming that the outcome of the poll will be the old MossyOak Shadowgrass, why is this so much more effective than let's say Advantage MAX-4?? How about for a chopped or tilled under cornfield??

Thanks a ton! :) - any and all help appreciated

Matt

Matt,

I did not vote as I would choose none of the above as the correct option. In my opinion, there is very few patterns that exist as a catch all. They will be good for some and bad for others. We all live in different parts of the world. Camo needs to change to best match the areas that I hunt most. In ground blinds I like Khaki. Otherwise I own many different patterns of clothing and switch to the pattern that best matches what I will be trying to hide in. I am excited to try Natural Gear patterns this fall. I might be a better catch all then what is out there for field hunting anyway. I still think the best camo is yet to come!

The basic problem for Max-4 is that the background is dark. If they would have made the background lighter it would be a better pattern. It is however effecitve in a tilled feild that is black. Shadowgrass is probably my favorite of the bunch. I do however like the greener colors added to new shadowgrass. I own stuff in most of the camo patterns. My favorite coat however has the old three color camo blobs common before grass pattern camo.:D

Like Brett stated, there isn't really a catch all type or pattern. Me, I'm partial to NatGear. Natural tones.

Of the ones you listed, I would choose old shadowgrass, but my personal favorite for all hunting situations is the neutral colors offered in Natural Gear. It just seems to "blend" in better in my situations that anything else.

I like the old shadow grass and nat gear.

I think the number one pattern for all purposes is Natgear. After just getting from New Mexico and seeing hunter after hunter wearing it in the woods and in the flatlands it just plain dissapears. I am now a 100% believer (eventhough I was 90% before) It truly works in all situations from big woods to the plains!

I agree with Brett. No camo pattern blends in in every situation. I use Advantage Wetlands and Advantage Max-4 the most because thats what works where i hunt. There are other places where these patterns will not blend in as well. It also depends on when your hunting. Early or late in the season. Early season everything is green, late in the season everything is brown. I like Max-4 in cut corn fields because the dirt is black and i think it blends in very well.

"In ground blinds I like Khaki. "

I agree 100% ! It's great base color and use natural vegitation where your hunting.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I suppose Brett is right, there is no ultimate pattern...and I suppose all the rest of the camo patterns will have their places where they blend in better than others. I have MAX-4 coats which I think will work well for me this fall, as I will mostly be hunting picked and chopped cornfields, and beans. And in another area of the country, as the terrain is different, shadowgrass or breakup will do the job better I suppose. I did check out Natural Gear and it looks like it has a very good tone base of color and does not completely incorporate any certain terrain or brush pattern, making in universal. I PUT OUT A NEW POLL THAT INCLUDES NATURAL GEAR IF EVERYBODY WOULD GIVE THAT A VOTE AGAIN I'D APPRECIATE IT!! I'm just trying to get a feel for what everybody uses. Again, thanks for the input and advice, it's all appreciated and will be used this fall. :) :) :)

Good Luck All,
Matt
