I was looking at all of the forums and was trying to decide on what would be the best call to start learning how to call on. I am trying to decide on whether to use a Power Hen Poly, Power Hen Acrylic, or the XR-2. Could anyone tell me what the best overall call would be for a beginner.
Thanks

I would go with the Zink Poly Power Hen. Its easy to use, sounds great, and is inexpensive. You should be able to call with this call in a matter of minutes.

Zink makes great calls but if I was just starting (IMHO) I wouldn't rule out the Echo Wood/Poly Timber... it's tough to beat for the $....;)

One thing about the XR-2... If you haven't blown a lot of Duck calls it might be a little tough to blow out of the box. It sounds great but takes a while to get the hang of it.

Cheers,

Adam

I agree, I had never blown a duck call and then I bought the poly power hen and like evry one said, in a matter of minutes I was actually half decent on it. I would definetly recomend it

Aggie,

The Poly Power Hen is a great duck call. The call is very used friendly for a single reed and has a raspy, ducky sound. Good luck with your choice and let us know which one you get.

Definitely go with the Poly Power Hen. Its 100% duck, and easy to blow!! The XR-2 takes a little more air pressure, and is s great call, but for your first one......go with the Power Hen! There are a lot of easy blowing calls out there, but not all sound ducky.

Check out some of the calling sound files on http://www.callingducks.com

You can listen to a lot of the different calls that are out there, and even though - the guys blowing sounds awesome......you get a good feel for what you can achieve once you get the hang of it.

Good luck.

Go with a Power Hen. I just bought one and already love it. It is really easy to blow and you can do a lot of stuff with it. Good luck with whatever you choose and Gig em' Aggies

I will have to jump on the Power Hen bandwagon myself and say that Power Hen in Poly is a good choice to go with as a beginner call. Not hard to blow and is easy to control, and sounds great. Pure duck baby.

I would like to add my opinion too. Along with the Poly PH get some good instruction. Learning the right way at the beginning is alot easier than breaking bad habits later!

One I suggest highly....

RNT Foundations For Success. First of a three CD set that will take you calling from beginner to good call operator. All of this is of course with good practice!! Give it a try....
