Been planning this trip for weeks....about a 2 hr drive and since I can't drive that far on my own yet (cancer treatments), my wife arranged to take the day off. Loaded with my list and my bonus cash card, I had visions of coming back loaded with decoys and waterfowling gear.....WRONG !!!!! Nice, beautiful store, friendly staff (even if some have no clue about the outdoors) but very little waterfowl "stuff". I guess they don't hunt ducks in WV...the only Avery decoys they had were Canada floaters and hot buy mallards....they had a full bodied black on display but couldn't see any others....no pintails, widgeon, gadwall or woodies....no mallard shells, no keel grabber weights....but don't feel bad Avery guys....they didn't stock any Drake clothing or gear or any of the other clothing in the waterfowl catalog in wetlands or shadow grass.I did get a few things I was after, and a bonus was a brand new decoy dolly for half price in the bargain cave. It's a nice store, and you could spend a lot of time there (nice restaurant upstairs) but if you making the trip for waterfowl gear, save your gas....

Sorry to hear about your disappointing trip. When did you go?
A couple of us on the Pro-Staff were there this past weekend (9/15 - 9/17) and your correct, they didn't have a good selection of duck decoys, but did have GHG Hot Buys as you said, goldeneyes, blue bill, FB mallards, FB Blacks, and they had a good assortment of FB Hunter Series Geese (which were on sale), Pro Grade shells, OS and LS floaters and a couple Pro Grade Harvester Packs. Additionally we set up a Avery Display near the entrance to "Deer Country" that contained decoy weights, line, line crimps, depth adjusters, decoy bags, pit Bags, etc. (supplies were limited, but when we left Sunday, they still had some of everything I listed)

The big advantage to going to the Wheeling store is that they have almost everything else in the distribution center that is right there. Most times they can bring what ever you need to the front of the store with out many problems

Snipehunter, I asked about that and we looked the items up in the catalog, an they said they didn't have them...wanted the push pole set and they didn't have one, but I'll give the guy credit, he tried to make one up with all the individual parts and sell it to me as a kit, but he was lacking the paddle. Did get a the boat seat I was after, but they didn't have the swivels....maybe the big sale cleaned then out...We enjoyed it enough, we'll probably make it an annual trip...maybe wait a few weeks until the leaves start to change....

I had a discussion with Avery Pro-Staffer Bob Chaplin the other day about this being that I will be at the Wheeling Cabelas this weekend. Cabelas does not consider that store a "waterfowl store". Which both of us agreed is not the case. People drive for hours just to go to a Cabelas and get what they need just to go to Cabelas.

Some of the Cabelas are sometimes hit and miss with gear. For me the extra 2 hours to Hamburg is worth the trip over Wheeling because of the above mentioned problems. All we need is a Macks in Central Ohio and that should take care of the rest!

For me, the Wheeling Cabelas is a waste of time for the most part. I've been saving the extra 2 hours on the road from NW PA, and stopping on I279 at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Mt. Nebo. Good selection of all the Avery dekes, etc.
