I am looking to get a new shotgun for next year, ( I shoot a nova now) and i was wondering if anyone has really compared the SBE I vs SBE II. Is it worth the extra 400$ bucks or not? I have shot a SBE II quite a bit and one thing i noticed is how easily the butt pad comes off.

I have the SBE II and my dad has the SBE I. As for buying the II one over the I one for the extra $400, I don't think it is worth it. A lot of it is just how you shoot. Don't get me wrong, the light weight of the II one and the comfort-tech system is all great. I just don't think it is worth the extra money. It really all boils down to how good the shooter is.

I have had them both. For the money I will stick to my I's. I sold my II and bought a second I for a backup. I just like the feel a little better and the fit.

I really like my II. Either would be a good choice

I own both - for now! I always liked my SBE I, and I demo'd a II and that was all it took. I bought 2 SBE II's and now my two teenagers swipe em before I can get my mitts on them.
As far as the recoil pad issue on the II's, I was lucky I guess with both mine, there was a "fix" for that from Benelli, and either they came from the factory already updated, or the dealer performed the fix, but mine have never given me a problem.
I like both, but if I was to buy, I'd go with the II.

I contemplated on the same question when I bought my Benelli. I liked the feel of the I much better than the II, I can't stand the small forearm grip on the II. And really when it boils down to it, the recoil (contrary to what the panzies say) isn't bad on my I. Two things to keep in mind when you do get it, shoot 1 1/8 oz. loads or bigger, and use a good lubricant to keeps the slides moving free. I was field hunting some of our awesome corn here in Iowa last fall and the lube I had used turned stiff in the cold. We had 3 thousand ducks working the field we were set up in, and I had a $1400 single shot. (needless to say i was pretty happy about that). but since then i have never had a problem with it. The lube i use now is actually just a penetrating lubericant call PB Blaster penetrating catalyst. This stuff is in a white and red can with a yellow cap, I highly recommend it to anyone, it works awesome. Anyways, good luck with the benelli purchase, you'll feel like a king walking out of the store with it!

the SBE2 is supposed to have less recoil than the 1. My dad has a SBE1 and he still likes his, hes had it for about 5 years i just got a SBE2 and i really cant tell much of a difference when i shoot 3 1/2, i think the new system definately helps with recoil.

The only thing that will cut down recoil is weight. There is nothing more to it. The benellis are light, to light in my opinion for a true waterfowl gun. With that said I have shot both the SBE I and SBEII. For an extra 400 bucks you can get a gun with fancy chevrons in the stock but thats about what it all boils down to. The SBE II's do have stainless steel inertia pistons which the SBE I does not. Go with whichever fits you better. You will not regret that, or you can step up and get into a Winchester:cool:

Be careful with the SBE II, like you mentioned the recoil pad has been known to come off when shouldering the gun if it gets caught on your jacket. Also too, if you do decide to go with the SBE II change the recoil spring out and put a Stainless Steel spring. The spring rusts and then has broke on many guns that I have seen and heard about as well. I like the gun but, there are some issues that need to be addressed before I would buy one. Look into the Beretta Xtrema 2 it is one solid gun, no complaints with it at all. It cycles every load that you can image with the exception of 7/8oz reload's. Good hunitng.

Tally for the I. I've got minimal complaints about my SBE II, but money is money and I say no.
