I'm going to hunt on a lake near the St. Lawrence river next week. There are always a few snows in the area, but not a lot. There are lots of canadas. I am hunting a shallow sandbar type shoreline for mallards and ringnecks. I am planning on putting out a few canada fullbodies and floaters for confidence. THe canada season is closed, but snows are open. I was thinking of putting 3 snow fullbodies off to the side. Will this scare the ducks?

I just got back from alberta and the snows were thick up there. we used 32 full bodied dnows, 5 dozen full bodied honkers, and 4 dozen greenhead duck decoys the first couple days and the ducks worked in pretty good. it doesnt seem to scare them. then the next couple of days we used the same but with 500 glad trash bags and the ducks were working in to about 10 yards all day long. it was the hunt of a lifetime and i dont think it scares them at all.

I think the ducks feel very comfortable landing with snows. They always seem to bomb into our snow spread.

Ducks shouldn't be scared at all. We have always had good ducks drop in the snow spreads. Makes for a nice mixed bag.

I started waterfowling about 3 years ago I live and hunt on the southern Chesapeake in VA and I haven't even seen a snows since I started hunting.:o
I haven't even really seen many migratory birds for that matter. About 90% of the mallards and canadas we see are resident birds. But the Buffleheads sure have been thick. Good luck to ya, Shayne.

Jamie,

I don't think this will scare the ducks. If anything, it will get their attention. Go for it !! Let us know how you do.
