My brother and me was wondering if anyone freelance hunts Arkansas(public ground)? We was thinkin about trying it but was wondering were are some good places. We don't have a boat so we were thinkin of a place that would be good for walkin in.

Based on my experiences in arkie land the last couple years i would say why not stay in oklahoma and do your walk in hunting there.. Seems to me that oklahoma would have some good opportunities out there. I lived in tulsa for a couple years their and in a short amount of time i saw that the hunting could be pretty good out in your state if you put in the time to find some birds and it would be less of a drive then going to arkansas. I know i didn't answer your question, but thats my opinion.

My buddies and me hunt public ground alot here in AR, but the people are every where so unless you know a spot to get away from people the birds get really pressured. I would probably also agree that it is wiser to stay in OK and find spots there it would save u a drive and haveing to deal with people. You would also probably need a boat to be successful to hunt alot of the spots here in AR if it ever rained.

We pretty much was just thinkin of some of the famed flooded timber of Arkansas. We usually go to the world ever year so we were kinda thinkin why not try it while we were there. And was just tryin to get a little info about it.
Ya OK in a great waterfowl place, but right know we just have a lot of ponds and dry fields to hunt. So we were just wantin to try a little timber huntin. We haven't really looked that hard for a spot yet but we are probably going to try to find one.
Thanks for the info.

You always got Bayou Meto to go and try to hunt. I also just recently got the arkansas duck hunter almanac that talks about the history of hunting in ark and it names quit a few wma's there. Might want to look at it if you get a chance to.

freelancing is our style most of the time. the WMAs get heavily preassured as many have said already. But depending on the time you are here there can still be good shooting on our public grounds. During the week is propably your best time. Bayo Meto, and the White River bottoms both have good walk in areas from what I understand if you are wanting flooded timber hunts.
The flooded woods are hard to beat. Good luck this year and if ya come to Arkansas hope crowds dont bother ya. As it is usually very crowded on public grounds.

What part of the state are you looking at hunting? Most of the traditional timber hunting is done on the east side of the state.
We have boats but when we hunt timber alot of times it's mostly walk in. Normally the walk is a mile back in the timber.
When we hunted Bayou Meto our walks were normally only 100 to 200 yards in.
