Avery Pro-Staffers and an Avery Youth Field Staffer have a banner weekend on the contest trail!

Saturday September 23rd and Sunday September 24th were two days filled with wins by Avery & Zink Calls Pro-Staffers in contests in Illinois, Ohio, and New Jersey.

In Carterville, Illinois, Field Hudnall started things out on Saturday by triumphing in the International Open Goose Calling Championship over a field of some of the best callers in the business today. Thanks to a rules change making it an “Open” contest in which previous winners can compete, Field was able to capitalize and become the first person in the history of the event to repeat as champion. Using his aptly named “Money Maker”, Field took home a winner’s purse of $5,000 for his efforts. On Sunday, Field was able to overcome another stellar field of contestants to win the Illinois State Open Goose Calling Championship and pocket another $1,000 in winnings. Mike Smothers was also in Carterville to compete, and after three rounds in a tough field of competitors, Mike was able to secure third place in the Weatherby World Open Goose Calling Championship.

In Oak Harbor Ohio, Avery Pro-Staffers Jeff House, Brian Laux, and Avery Youth Field Staffer Jeff Shelby took home a bunch of hardware. On Saturday in the Crane Creek Open Meat Duck Calling Contest, Jeff Shelby started things off by taking home Champion Honors with his trusty Power Hen. In the “Kings of Crane Creek” Championship, two-man teams compete in a meat duck and hunter goose contest, with their scores from each event being tallied together and the overall high scorers being crowned “Kings of Crane Creek”.

Jeff House teamed up with Jeff Shelby, taking second in the Two-Man Hunter Goose Calling Contest, and winning the Two-Man Meat Duck Calling Contest. When the combined scores were tallied the two team mates secured the overall title and were crowned “Kings of Crane Creek. On Sunday, the action continued and in the Ohio State Goose Calling Championship for Ohio residents, Brian Laux came out ahead on the judges’ scorecards to take home the award for champion, with Jeff Shelby placing second, and Jeff House taking third place. Looking for redemption, Jeff House came back strong and won the Ohio Open Goose Calling Contest, with Jeff Shelby again taking runner-up honors and Brian Laux picking up the third place plaque.

Over on the East Coast, on September 23rd Rusty Hallock traveled from Maryland up to New Jersey and swept the contests he competed in. Rusty started the winning off by taking the Barnegat Bay Open Duck Calling Championship with his Power Hen. Last year in 2005, Rusty was crowned the champion in the New Jersey Open Goose Calling Contest. On Saturday, he entered the 2006 edition of the contest and successfully defended his title to repeat. For 2007, Rusty will be able to take it easy; the rules state you must take a year off from the competition if you win two years in a row.

All in all a great weekend for these guys!
