HUNTERS: Avery Youth Field Staffer Chris Holleger, Jimmy Tibbitt, and Will DeBlois
NOTES: After watching all the other AYFS Members posting up there hunts I finally got the opportunity! On the edge of our seats waiting for duck season, it seemed like it took forever. As usual it was a early morning get up to get everything ready. We got to the blind in plenty of time to get set up and to get everything situated. As soon as we got in the blind and were cuttin' up we had ducks gliding into GHG decoys. The only problem was the rain was so thick you couldn't see them. It cleared up some, and Jimmy and I got a nice crack at a big Black Duck and a Green Wing Teal. As time went on the rain got less harder and let up a lot. Every now and then we would get a few minutes of showers but it wouldnt stay around. Once the Sun started to peek out the ducks slowed up and stopped flying. I would have to say the best moment of the day was watching 4 Green Wing Teal flying into the decoys and 4 not leaving. Having Mallards pitching into your decoys as quiet as they could without having to blow a call was nice to see to. We obviously have had better shoots but we were all pleased with the day. Not only did we duck hunt, but we got a good look at were the geese were using and how many were using the area. We ended up with 11 ducks total, 2 Mallards, 2 Black Ducks, and 7 Green Wing Teal, one of them banded. Not a bad day.
I will try to get pictures up as soon as I can. Either that or Will can put them up.
