I just had the best hunt of my life on Friday!!! I live right on the Mississippi, so we get migrations of thousands and thousands of geese on the river. On Friday, there were only three large and probable choices of corfields that were picked and that the geese could use. Dad and I had gone out last Tuesday evening in one of the fields and the geese went down about a half mile away from us into a chopped cornfield. Unfortunately we found out that the landowner there doesn't allow hunting. So, on Friday, we went out for an afternoon hunt on the field that bordered the chopped field that the geese had been using. We set up our 16 GHG FFD's as close as we could to the field that the geese were using. That night, we saw about 3,000 geese that NO ONE else was field hunting!! :D Needless to say, they decoyed very well and we had an awesome hunt. We also had large flocks of Mallards that circled the spread. We didn't get a crack at those Greenheads though, with all the geese circling. It's so fun to hunt these big migrations!!
The best thing about the whole hunt was---the last goose down was BANDED!!! This is my first band. When we checked it in, we found that it was banded in Wicsonson(right across the river!) and was banded on July 5, 2006, so I assume this was a first year local bird.
Also, I am extremely impressed with the Avery Calling Gloves and the Avery Skull Cap!! The Calling Gloves are awesome--they're great for setting up the decoys too!! The skull cap is great for keeping your head warm without having to wear something really bulky.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and good luck with your hunts!
