full body mallard question

i just got 4 doz full body mallard decoys from avery to use this year.last sat was our opener.i hunt the red river it has alot of sand bars so the decoys are very visiblesay morning we set up all the decoys plus 4 doz water decoys.the sun was in full force with not a cloud in the sky.the ducks had been using the bar heavy.we hunt out of finishers covered in burlap to mimickthe sand it has worked well in the past.while hunting sat morn i observed the big ducks not wanting to commit. we searched for the reason and we came up with the heads of the full body mallards were very shinyalmost reflective.i say this becuase we hunted sun morn and didnt use the full bodys and the big ducks commited (same spot). i was wondering if any one else had any suggestions or had the same thing happen and what can i try diffrent? any hepl greatly appreciated, thanks

I highly doubt it was the heads....as I have and so many have bagged ducks over them.
Though, if you still have doubts, I believe you can purchase flocked ones. Either from Avery, and or Mack PW's.
Someone else might have a better idea where to get them as well.

Man...there is no telling what the problem was. I don't think that it was the heads though...we hunted over them for a straight 60 last year...sun, clouds, rain, and fog...Not once did I think that the FB's were flaring ducks actually just the opposite. We had ducks all year that were trying to land on the dry ground next to the pits as opposed to in the water.

I really don't think that it was the heads. If you still have a question about it, I would recommend the flocked heads for the mallards. I have been using them and they look great in the field, especially on those bright sunny days. I am with Christian on this, we have had birds trying to land with the full bodies on dry land versus with the other decoys in the water.

I had my doubts if it was the heads and the decoys myself but the other guys i hunted with thought this was the case....i have seen mallards on bright sunny days and if the light is right they kinda shine..who knows what the problem is maybe them big ducks were just scared of landing on my sand bar with all them pretty ducks down there... thanks for the help guys

How many times have each of us been in this situation? I am sure the same questions are contemplated by waterfowlers every day. To me, real live drake mallards heads are very shiny. I don't think this would be the problem, but who knows for sure.

I really noticed this year that ducks and geese were more unprediticable than previous seasons. On more than one occassion, I witnessed birds changing feeding, loafing and staging areas for no apparent reason. Maybe the big ducks just weren't interested in that particular sandbar on that day.
