I hunted with a friend this morning and the discussion of boats came up we tried to think if a man could only have 1 duck boat and had to hunt with it what would the best boat/motor combo be?he has a pro-drive and i run a 17foot boat with a 115 jetfoot motor.just curious what every body else hunts out of

I don't own a duck boat, but when I think about the ultimate boat, Jeff Coats' Goliath comes to mind. The name says it all. If I just hunted marshes and small water though, I would like to get a Momarsh.

There are alot of great ones. But the 19' Duck Water is on my list... Although the 18' Alaskan does the job just fine for me!

There isn't one.

Depending on what type of gunning you do...Each environment requires a boat with different needs...I have a Boat that I think allows me to be the most versatile waterfowler I can be...Its a 14ft Arthur Armstrong Broadbill...I can layout in it(2 guys), its pretty low profile...I can hunt the sedges and marsh with it all grassed up..Its big enough and stable enough to handle moderate seas(2-3 footers at most) I can haul 5-8 dozen dekes(depending on the size) and still have room for 2 guys and a dog(its tight though)...I think the question is, "what boat maximizes MY needs" and I think you can find one boat that suits you best...If I mostly gunned sea ducks and Eiders would the AA Broadbill be the best boat for me...Probably not....In truth if every waterfowler had his druthers most would probably choose multiple crafts to fit their needs...When I was looking for a boat..I first asked myself what type of hunting do I do and went from there...And again I chose the AA Broadbill because it allowed me to do pretty much everything..And do it safely

My boat would be the one i just bought, a 18 ft masterfowler and a 45 mud buddy, the boat its self is vary light and has a smooth bottom tall sides and will go threw and over most anything.

I agree with Swampy. There just isn't one boat that fits the bill for all situations. To be versatile, a hunter needs about 3-4 different boats. At least that's what I've been trying to convince my wife of.

Great Insight on the topic...We're all so glad you replied:rolleyes:

As for the PFD's You obviously can't see me but I have mine on..And the other gentlemen is sitting on his( a cushion model PFD)

Didn't really expect this kind of vulturizing of post's on the Avery site.....:(

On a side note if you had any appreciation for the "sneakbox" type boat.....You would know that the Arthur Armstrong design is one of the most celebrated in hand made duck boats...This boat was built by a fella in Vermont hand crafted over many months.....The Sneakbox is one of the most storied boats in duck hunting history...Its design has been gunning the bays and marshes of the Atlantic coast for over 100 years....More folks have met their maker in tin can rigs than Sneakboxes I'll bet that....

i agree with you swampy....
a waterfowler to be truley versitle in my opinion needs about 4-5 boats.
i love my current boat the 17 ft jet foot its great for where i hunt but it has its limits it hates grass.i had a 23 hp go devil dut lack of speed hurt my scouting and range of hunting.we typicaly hunt 12-20 miles from the boat ramp.i needed something that was easy on the gas and fast enough to go.but if money was no problem i would own several boats
1.the boat i own now
2.a mud motor/mud boat with avery boat blind
3.a airboat
4.a bigger flat bottom with a lot bigger motor
5.a wareagle camo party barge (just becuase money is no option)

until i win the lotto wich i never play i guess i will keep what i got and keep wishing.the baest thing would be to find 4 friends with the above boats

any one with these boats, im a great friend just ask mine

Me & my dad have a 20ft War Eagle w/ a 125 fourstroke on it ! It also has a jackplate on it so we can run very shallow water. I love this boat when we are crossing big water to get back to the shallows. Sometimes the swells get over 3ft. We have built a custom fold-up blind on it & covered it w/ Avery grass & it looks wicked !
