Need some help fellas

Hey everyone,

I am doing a report on what watefowl products should be in a store, I would like you guys to give out a few products. In these catagories
(doesnt have to be strictly avery stuff)

The most important item in a waterfowl store is selection. In order to be successful in a retail environment you have to have something for everybody.

That goes for everything. Shotshells, clothing, boots, waders, decoys, guns, calls, etc. There is no one product that suits everyone and their needs.

Would we all love to be able to hunt a massive spread of brand XXX's top of the line decoys, have $1000 in acrylic around are neck, wearing the latest greatest clothing and boots, hiding in our newest conceptualized lay out blind while shooting the finest firearm ever made. YES WE WOULD. Is it financially feasible to start there? No it's not. Todays waterfowlers are as different in night and day. Some are just starting, others have been around the woods and have built a great collection of gear.

So you will need items that vary for that.

you will need the 19.99 a dozen brand X decoy and a selection that goes through the $300 a dozen. You will need the blister packed 19.99 waterfowl calls, as well as the acrylic and poly's. This will go all the way down the line.

You will essentially need a selection of everything that todays waterfowl would want, based on your target customer. My target customer is the one that wants to buy something.

I definately agree, selection is the key, I would definately stress a good variety of decoys also, Our sporting good stores here dont carry very many decoys and i think this really hurts them i would prolly buy mine locally but they just dont carry them.

I would say the Top 3 things to carry are
1. Shells
2. Waiters
3. Decoys

i dont think many people get their calls locally alot of them know they cant blow a call so they just choose to depend on their decoys. I'd say a selection of cheap calls is the way to go, noone understands quality.

Definately competitive prices on steel shot though, Our local sporting good stores are outrageous on shotgun shells i always end up running outta shells during the season and end up having to go to wal-mart just to be able to afford shells.

KENT,Federal,McAlister,Drake,GK,Grounds,Foiles,Mal lard Mauler,Higdon,Dave Smith,Hardcore,Final Approach. We are looking at adding more. I would like stuff to fall under these catagories.

I didnt see any Avery, GHG, or Zink products on that list! I would have a good selection of gear on that list, expensive and cheap, because there are people who cant afford expensive things (like me) and there are people who can spend tons of money and get the best of everything.

You can not have 100% top of the line. There are just not enough guys buying it in a given radius.

you will need your flambeau <GASP... I said flambeau>. your carry lites <double gasp> and the likes to support a strong customer base.

I realize that, and would like our guys help to give me specific things we should bring in. Like the Hot Buy Mallards are gonna come, and Avery hats and shirts, and other stuff. I would just like you guys to give me exact things that you think we should have.

i work in a retail store in the North East, and we pride ourselves on top of the line in quality, while trying to be competitive in price. We don't sell guns or ammo, but that is coming.

The store has been in business for 22 years, and is still growing. I have worked there for 4+ years now.

Anyways, you want to have a wide range of calls. We have primos, Flex Tone, Big River, Wing Lock, Tim Grounds, and others.

As far as decoys and accessories, we have GHG and Flambeau, but are getting rid of flambeau. The price difference is not much, and it is easy for people to see why they should purchase GHG instead of flambeau. Looks do SELL!

As far as accessories, we have the blinds, decoy rigging equipment, goose flags, camo material, extra decoy heads, flocking kits, decoy bags and more.

As far as clothes, we have Avery clothes, but also do well with Woolrich for casual. Camo, we go with many different manufacturers.

Shoes, there are soo many for that category, lacrosse, irish setter, hodgman, red wing, baffin, sorel etc.

you get the point.

Have some of everything, but don't have more cheap crap than good stuff. Always have more of the better stuff, it looks nicer and DOES SELL!

when i got diagnosed with the duck hunting disease.it is a disease just ask my wife shes still trying to find a cure.i bought cheap thats all i could afford.i learned that there is a diffrence in a 55$ walmart coat and a columbia widgeon jacket.i see that most of your fair day hunters will buy cheap but if a person is going to hunt they need a good selection of high quality products that are neccesary to use in thier hunts.a good coat selection is a must along with waders ,good quality.let walmart sell the rubber waders you sell high quality waders.i guess go to your local walmart and sell everything they dont carry becuase as you know you cant find a lower price.in my opinion and thats all this is ,quality sells not price.thats why i use alot of avery and other brand hunting gear its not the cheapest but the best.you will forget your coat cost 250$ when your hunting in 35 mph wind with a wind chill of 0 and you are comfortable

Don't forget to carry Ground Force's, it seems as though they are replacing the Finisher. It may also be an idea to carry a larger variety of diver decoys and some more O/S ducks because I think Oversize decoys are relied upon by a lot of hunters. I would add...
