I had the chance to hunt with Ryan Johnston from Delta Waterfowl last weekend. After the hunt we chatted about what Delta does.

I found out that nest success in and around Minnedosa , Mb is 1%. Yes I said 1%. Their researchers did a count of predators/skunks in that area and the numbers are crazy. All that great duck habitat and all those ducks and they can't even reproduce successfully.

He did mention that only hen houses/predator control will bring up the nest success in this area.

So....even if we save all the habitat in certain areas, if we do nothing about predators, it is all for nothing!!!

I do donate to both Delta & DU. I'm thinking I will be giving more dollars to Delta in the future!!!

I switched and chose Delta over DU a few years ago for my donations. I just liked what they were doing a little bit better.

The facts about predators are amazing though!

My thought is to donate to every conservation effort there is. Give equal to them all. They all play apart in waterfowl for our future. A group of guys in my area has started a group called the flyway foundation. Our numbers on the east coast have been going down every year for a long time now and the flyway foundation is helping build hundreds of hen houses every year in our state to help out the prarie pot hole region. The more people that get involved the more success there will be! We did over 400 at our last worday.

Upstate FF workday, they did 112 in 2 hours. It can be done!

I most certainly agree. I just don't have the money yet to do that. I had to pick and choose and I thought that DWF was doing a llittle more in my particular area that DU...even though DU's HQ is right down the road! That wasn't meant to say one was better than the other by any means. They are all great and maybe one day I can write a HUGE check to a lot of conservation efforts! To each his own...

Cheers to your buddy and his groups efforts!

Great job Rhett! I am a member of both but I am on the Ducks Unlimited Commitee for my city chapter.
