Hank, you definitely had a great season, no doubt. I just wish that the luck with bands would wear off on me.

Well I'll send you some luck for the last week for what it's worth...GOOD LUCK!!! I'm planin to get another whack at em before Sunday across state lines...man the ducks are flyin today...figures:-(

Do you or anybody know the significance of the prefix number on bands...I have several of the same prefix number..but they're from different locations and years...I heard the last number of the prefix number is the band size, all mine end in 7, except for the teal and pintail bands.

The last # in the prefix on Mallard bands and also for Snows will always be 7. There is also a size difference though, Mallards are size A and Snows which are larger are size B. Pintails, Wood Ducks, and Wigeon size bands the prefix will end in 6. I have killed some Snows and Blues that have got the same prefix of 1557 or 1587 that are of the same year but of different locations.

Cool..I never really knew that. My teal band ends in 4. I guess a dove has a 1 sized band?

I shot a male greater snow last Feb. prefix 1587 banded in SW BYLOT ISLAND NT in 2002

The mallard posted in the pic was a 1837 and was banded in Quebec last year and the money band was accompanied by a 1837 from this year banded in Saratoga NY. Pretty interesting, I never paid much attention to the numbers..
