Great! I've never seen a coot fly before. I've seen so many of these stupid birds in my trip to Saskatchewan that never see another in my life would not be a problem.

A little story about coot just for fun.

Couple months ago, during a hunt, a duck landed in the spread about 10 yards from us. He started to swim in the spread without ever notice we were there. We did'nt want to shoot him in the decoys so my friend started to yell at him for couple seconds but the duck was swimmig away instead of taking off.

We were filming the scene for fun when my friend decided to shoot on the water at the right of the duck to make him take off. The duck took off but he shot his last two shells in the air hitting nothing at all that was already funny but.... After couple minutes, we've seen something splashing water further on the pond.

We were laughing so much at him that we never noticed that he accidently shot a coot peacefully swimming on the water about 50 yards further. There was so many of these birds on the pond that he shot one by accident when he shot in the water to scared the duck.

Now each time I look at our video I think about that shot.

Is this bird useless or he helf nature for something? Example: eating bugs

I mean, is there any key role for that bird?

Someone has to appreciate those little guys, I'll go out on a limb and say I don't mind em. Those pictures turned out great, especially the second one from the bottom.

You did a beautiful job of capturing the ugliest bird in the world on your camera:). You'll never see a coot picture on my camera, but your pictures can make even a sawbill or coot look good. It's as if they ate something, had an alergic reaction, and their feet swelled up.

Nice job.

I never knew that coots migrated, I thought that they just buried themselves in the mud while the real waterfowl headed south!jk Great shots man!

i help band waterfowl during the summer and we have the volunteer kids get them out of the traps.. Its pretty funny we tell them to grab the ivory bill ducks , the kids get pecked like crazy .. some times they get banded so remember to check the leg if you shoot one..
