I am interested in getting a new gun. I have narrowed it down to the SBE 2 or the SX 3. Both guns fit me well and i was wandering what everyone thought. Also I am in the market for a new goose and duck call. Looking at either a Foiles Strait meat Honker or Lynch mob Executioner. Also looking at foiles Timber Rattler. Thanks for all replys

I would personaly say the extrema 2 but the SBE 2 is the one I would pick from your selection, and the call I would say go with the timber rattler, if you get a chance look at the dead meat mallard by Foiles, it is like the timber rattler but with a duckier sound

There is no way to go wrong with the SBE. I've seen them perform and perfom and perform.

However, you can get a VERY simlar gun and won't have to pay $1400 for it. I use a Franchii 912. It operates on basically the same design as the older Benelli's and is about half the money. I belive they have quite making the 912but I am sure they have a substitute. I have been really impressed with my Franchii and I paid $730 for the Shadowgrass camo. Shoots great, feels great and operates even in cold weather. Just an thought.

The X3's have been reported to shoot and function very well. I personally own a winchester X2 and love the gun. The SBE series while good guns are in my opinion to light for waterfowl guns. The Winchesters have the heft to reduce recoil and get me on to shooting more birds! Check for deals on either the original SBE or the X2's. There are many places that have these guns on close out. I saw an all black 3.5 SX2 for 599 new the other day. I remember camo Sbe's for 1000 dollars. As for calls, I have and like a SMH. They are easy to tune and sound great.

Given your options I would say get the SBE2 and the Lynch executioner. The executioner is just like a Zink Little Man, check it out. Don't get a SMH.

Super X-3 all the way. I have shot both. Almost bought the SBE II but just as I was heading in to pick it up the X-3 finally came in. It just fit me better and fit has a lot to do with it. The gun performed flawlessly last year. I couldn't be happier with it. It seems a lot less heavier then my X-2 and felt recoil actually seems less as well. I had no problem cycling kent, Winchester, Remington or Environmetal loads. I have a PM-extended on it. It is a very nice set up. As far as call go, I am a Zink guy so your on your own there!

I would go with which gun fits you the best and aims where you point it. A good trick to use in a sporting store when looking at guns is to find a goose/duck hanging from the ceiling. Take a look at it, then close your eyes. Bring the gun up with your eyes closed and if the gun mounts right etc, you should be dead on the bird.
As far as recommendation, I personally shoot a Xtrema 2 and love it but from your guns, I would go towards the SBEII since its been out longer then the X3.

I have a friend that shoots a sbe 2. He says he has to clean it every time he gets done hunting or it would jam up on him the next time out. He likes it better for shooting sports rather than hunting. Don't over look the browning gold. It will take the abuse and keep on shooting. I own both calls. The executioner takes less air to blow and I think sounds a little better. Although the foiles has a little deeper tone.

Michiganhunter,
The best advise I can give you is go to your nearest gun dealer and try both guns, figure out which one fits you the best, the one you are the most comfortable with, and go with that gun, everybody likes certain guns for certain reasons, I have a SBE and love it, also think the Extremas are great guns along with the SX's, they just don't fit me and I am not comfortable with these guns. As for calls if you can test each one out before you decide if you can, also give the Zink Littleman or Moneymaker a try, both easy calls to blow with wide ranges in tone and volume, great all around calls, definitly would give them a shot before I would make my final decision.

Tell your friend when he is done cleaning his gun to make sure he wipes it down good with a clean dry rag to get most of the oil residue off the gun parts, this may solve his problem, I was having the same problem when I first got my SBE and talked to a local gun smith and this was the advice he gave me. He said that it is possible to over oil a gun and that it was most likely causing the gun to gum up. Eversince I have only been taking apart and cleaning mine completely at the end of the season, during season I usually just wipe down the outside, unless it gets dunked in the slough or we are in a really dusty field. Haven't had jam up since. Just a suggestion, may not be an answer but hope it helps.

I haven't shot the X-3, but, I had an X-2 that I really liked... for about a year. At a year or so the thing went to pieces on me, and it was traded for a SBE2. I really like it. The SBE feels so much better in my hands than the Winchester- like a night and day difference.

I'm with Mark, I too had an SX2 that got to where it refused to cycle 3 1/2" shells. I switched to the SBEII and have been very satisfied. Good Luck!

I would say go with the SBE II and the Lynch mob executioner. SBE II are a great waterfowl gun and would be a gun you would be able to keep for the rest of your life. My first shortreed was a lynch mob goose noose and it was a great beginner call. Lynch mob's are easy to blow and have a great range of tones you can make. the executioner will give you the option of getting a little higher pitch too.

I can say I've been very happy with my SBE II, although in all fairness, I've only shot about a case of shells. I switched 1/2 way through our season to a Browning Gold 10. As far as calls. Executioner or Goose Noose. We also have a great new Duck call that hit the marsh. Check George out.

I would go with the SBEII in a 28" barrel. Put a Briley's light mod in it and have at it. As for a call, I'm a little different...Bill Saunders Traffic. Great range, different sounding, you can get very, very, very fast on it. Give it a try!
