I use Federal Ultr-shock 3" Dueces for ducks and last year I tried a variety of goose loads, and just recently bought a case of the Winchester Elite shells. 3" BB. Really knocks em down.

Since this is the duck hunting thread I assume you are talking ducks. I use Winchester Supreme in #2's for ducks. It always seems like my duck loads get exposed to water if not totally submerged so I want to make sure I have a good waterproof shell that is well sealed.

Federal 3 inch HHV in 3 shot and Hevi steel 4's. Both are very effective at what they do.

I dont find it to be as important as to what size or kind of shell. I think the most critical thing is shooting the same shell all the time. I shoot 2/34 7's in teal season, 3" 4's for ducks, then i switch to 3-1/2" BB's for geese. I have found that consistency in load has given me a greater kill percentage than anything else. I shot more fowl with fewer shells this year than ever before and i believe that it comes from using the same shells at all times. The best shell i have found to pick for this is a shell i can readily buy at all times. i have to admit if WalMart carries it, its pretty easy to get at 5am when i forgot to restock the blind bag. Just a thought!!!;)

3 inch Kent Faststeel number 4s for everything.
But most of my shots are inside 30 yards
I try to buy shells that are rated at or over 1500 fps.
Its been said, mix around until you find a shell that patterns well out of your gun/choke.

I like the Kent Fasteel loads myself.
3" #2s and #3s are what I usually go after the ducks with.
3" BB or #1 for the big honkers.
Although we did discover that Remington's 1 1/4 oz. #2 Sportsmans loads can be deadly as well. Not bad priced either.

I've shot several brands over the last couple years. For ducks I usually stick with 2's and 3's. The specific loads have been Federal HHV 3" 1 1/4 oz loads. Last year I bought a case of Kent 3" 1 1/4 oz. 2's and 1 1/8 oz. 3's. The 2's worked great, the 3's I haven't shot much of yet. I also have shot Kent 3" 1 1/8 oz. 2's with good results.

Whatever I can find. You know the norm, shells that have been rolling around in a boat. Rusted, laying in the back of the truck. Whatever works !

I reload my own shells, and if I had a suggestion it would be: Find a shell that you like and stay with it. Buy enough to last all season, so you can shoot the same load day in and day out.
I shoot 3 1/2" - #5 - 1 3/8oz - 1550fps = Ducks (Any Ducks) & the same load #2's for geese. But I don't get to do alot of goose hunting.
I think that you can get away with smaller shot (pellet size) these days. The Steel Product is SO much better than it was when it first came out. My #5's will kill Mallards dead at 40-45 yards. But the smaller the pellet that you can get away with and still be lethal will get you a denser pattern, and give you more hits on the target, which improves your cahnces of hitting something vital (Game Over).
Shooting the same shell will let you get use to the same lead, and make you a much better shooter. If you need to move up in pellet size to hunt geese, stay with the same speed and you Shooting Lead doesn;t change. When you are changing from 1550fps to 1300fps or anything in between, it cause a shooting lead problem for you. You are use to shooting a speed and hitting, and when it falls off 200-300 fps it causes you to hit BACK on the target. Increasing speeds is usully OK due to normally most of us are not head shooters. I think a 3" or 3 1/2" in the 1550fps - #4 would be a fantastic store bought round for ducks.
But the best thing we can do is find a shell that we like and stay with it. If you run out of shells in late season, and haft to go buy what is left on the shelf it will cause you lead problems, and many think it is the shell. If you were use to the lead and shooting those shell you would be KILLER with them. But the 200fps-300fps is a major issue in lead. Could make the difference in 4"-6" farther back on the target. Can kill to many shooting them in the butt.

If you can get your hands on some T shot or BBB you should be pretty good.
You have to hit the bird first though!!:D

I like small sized shots. I like 2's for Geese and 5's for Ducks. To me smaller pellets have better penetrating power. This past season we had a guy shoot a Goose with BBB's. Their was one pellet through the head and thats it. We shook the goose and all the pellets fell from the down.

3" #2's and 3's @ 1400 FPS work best for me. I am partial to the Remington Sportsman loads as they are sealed and reasonably priced.

I shoot the cheaper winchester loads. #2 1550 for ducks and BB for geese but have shot many with #2's. Like the others said stick with the same speed shell and you will be fine. A few years ago I was reloading some of my own at 1680 FPS but I was missing a lot. Too much lead, I was shooting in front of them. That and it took an hour to reload a box and then they weren't waterproof, You had to hand weigh shot and powder, to much work for what the winchesters cost.
