I am fairly new to waterfowl hunting. I grew up in eastern washington on the Idaho border and had never waterfowl hunted. We hunted big game and upland birds.
I have lived in Sacramento California now for almost ten years but most of my family still reside up in Washington/Idaho. My best friend whom I also work with got me into waterfowl hunting two years ago and I have been hooked ever since.
I talked my brother into coming down from Washington and visiting me. I told him how wonderful waterfowl hunting is and that I was taking him out on a couple hunts during his visit. He is an avid Elk and deer hunter along with upland bird but never has he waterfowl hunted. loving the outdoors as anyone who stomps around Northern Idaho does, he was game for anything that involved a shotgun and camoflage.
I have to admit that my friend Dan and I had other motives besides showing my brother Bob a good time. If we could get him hooked then that would open up some opportunities to hunt Washingtons central flyway as he would be sure to locate prime waterfowl hunting areas on his own as the addiction feverlishly overtook his entire thought process for the rest of his life.
The first hunt didnt go so well as the weather didint cooperate but then came the second hunt. The sky was blue and the sun was out but the wind was howling. Birds were bombing in from all directions. the party consisted of my friend Dan, my brother Bob and myself. Everyone of us went through two boxes of shells. At one point a flock of about eight green wing came in and only one or two flew away. We were rolling! It was an absolute amazing time. It was the second to last weekend of the season and I had such a great time that I didnt even hunt the closing weekend. I was content on ending the season on that note.
My brother Bob bagged a drake Widgeon,Two drake GreenWing Teal, One hen Greenwing Teal, a drake gadwall, a drake Shoveler and a Speckledbelly goose. On his second waterfowl hunt of his life. As you can see by the expression on his face he now has the addiction!

He has since returned home and I have learned that he now knows all his local hunting regulations and season dates. He has scouted several hunting areas and found many honey holes for his own hunts next season.
Dan and I's evil plan is working and we will soon be reaping the fruits of our labor...MUHAHAHHHAAAAA!:D
