Not sure what you mean by cackler since they have lumped all small geese into the Lesser title. But if they are anything like the "lessers" we hunt here in Texas they like lot's of calling..... sharp clucks, honks, barks, and they seem to like it all the way to the the shot being called. They seem to stay "on line" this way and seem to drift if you do not stay on them.

Just get on your call and stay on it, right until you call the shot. Those little beauties like lots of noise. Just keep the reed bouncing at all times.

Like the others have said, the chickens love noise. Nice high pitched clucks, double clucks, etc. usually get the job done.

Ditto.

Like he said, once you get on that call stay on that call. they love lots of noise.

Do you have a true west coast Cackler Call? If not that's a great place to start. True west coast cacklers are "spooky" vocal birds. Break Through II has a sort segment on what Cacklers sound like on the call. Are you going to be hunting them in SW Washington?

Cheers,

If you hunt lessers all year I would suggest getting a cackler call.

but you could tune your call high, I just use my same calls

it would be a great call to add to the collection

I'd have to agree with the guys above, once you've got there attention stay on them till your ready to pull the trigger, lots of high pitched clucking.

We run into some very high pitched Canadas in ND every year too. I actually took an old Foiles Meatgrinder and tuned it very high, almost like a snow goose call. Its pretty close and has done the job on the geese. I'm surprised Zink hasn't come out with a true cackler call. I know the LM-1 is considered a lesser call, but a higher one would be the nuts.

Try a PM-1 tuned high. Those things can really crack when tuned right. I keep mine tuned fairly high just for that reason. Big geese also like high pitched calls just as much as the little geese do.

like wingman said, if you are hunting true cacklers, a call tuned for lessers won't always work. look into one of the calls made espescially for the little guys. then try and sound something like this but faster. i'm waaaaaay outta practice.
