The Lynch Mob crew uses the Sony PD 170. Well out of the price range you posted, but worth every penny.

I believe the Zink crew uses a Sony VX2100. We are using a Canon gl2 and i have no complaints at all about the camera. Not sure what we paid for it...wasn't responsible for that purchase.

When I saw them it was a Canon GL2 which retails for about $2k. A good used one will run about $1,500. However, you will need a computer with dual core processor and 2GG of RAM to run a quality NLE program (with effects, titles and soundtrack) which will run you about $2,5 and $1K each. Add the extra batteries, cases, video monitor, external hard drive, mics, etc and you can film like the pros for about $8 grand........off course a two or three camera shoot is nice
