Can I just put the mallard shells in a decoy bag, or is the paint going to come off? I just bought 4 doz of these and really do not want to have to screw with slotted bags.

I put mine in a regular decoy bag and saw no wear. I did however remove the heads. I stacked 6 together then placed them in the bag and then stacked the other 6 placing them in the bag facing another direction so it wasn't so lopsided. But the ulitimate would be the six slots bags. Since you have 4 dozen you might could put 8 in each slot using only one bag tom carry all 4 dozen. I have not tried that so I'm not sure if it would work but just throwing that idea out there. It would sure make it easy putting them out.

The more they rub together, the more concerned I would be. There is nothing that can stop the paint from coming off by rubbing together. If you stack them and cinch the decoy bag up tight, you should not have a problem.

Thanks,

I put mine in the 6-slot bag with 6 per slot. You may get all of yours in a snow/lesser 6 slot bag.

As Rick stated, the more the decoys rub together the more chance of problems you could have. If you keep the bag cinched tight you should be okay. When I stack mine, I use bungee cords to keep them together tight. This seems to work good.

I just used a Hot Buy Decoy Bag this past season to put mine in. I stacked them and put them in the bag and they stayed in good shape all season.

If I were you, I would stack them and then put 3-4 in each slot of a 12 slot full body duck bag. This way, you should be able to get almost all if not all in one 12 slot bag and that is just as good as putting them in a regular decoy bag and it keeps rubbing down to a minimum.

Does anyone KNOW of a bag that WILL hold several shells in each slot?

I also use the slotted bags for the mallard shells (feeder)

I have a 12 slotted fullbody duck bag that came with the harvester pack. I usually dont carry the sleepers/rester FB's so I have 4 slots in the bag that are open. I put 3 feeder shells in each slot and it works out great.

I called Cabelas and have an Avery 12 slot on the way. I understand about the feeders... do you think the rester shells will also fit in there, or are they too big?

I have put mine in a mesh bag with full bodies no probs with paint. a little chipping can be expected with all brands of decoys that are used. if you expect them to stay perfect dont use them. by the time a bird see's a chip in the paint it should be on the way down:D
