View Full Version : Dog vest sizes?
yellow dog

I'm looking for a vest for my yellow lab. When I measured him I came up with a 20" neck and 34" chest. According to the size charts, that means he needs a 3XL! I know he is a big dog, but he is fit and solid. 3XL just sounds huge! Anyone have any info on how accurate the size charts are?

I bought one for my dog a couple years ago based on the size recommendation which said 3XL. It was a little big on her and she stepped through it with her front legs. She was just on the outreach of a 2XL so I went bigger. I think you want it snug for the warming factor but too tight and she will be uncomfortable. Hopefully, one of the Avery dog pros will chime in with more info.

You do want a snug fit. It helps keep water from getting under the vest to much. Remember you can trim the neoprene on our vest. Just don't cut farther back than the bar tack on a seam.

I was wondering the same thing about Avery vest sizes.
My girl is a small 14 month old lab, she is 55 lbs. 20-21 neck and 29-30 chest. I'm assuming she will fill out a bit more but not by much.
According to the chart she would be a XL or maybe a 2XL. What would a Small be for ? A jack russell ?!
I'm sure by following the chart I'll be OK but it just a odd size chart. Kind of a reverse human womens cloths thing....

That size dog could probably wear a Large. You want the dog parka to fit snug and you can do some trimming to make it fit correctly.

Take also into consideration when you measure your dog, summer or fall or winter
If you measure in the summer its better to be a little on the bigger side because they will put on weight towards Fall and in to the season.

It is almost impossible to fit any dog 100 percent. I think the most important measurement is the chest. You want that to be snug.
thanks,
