Small Outboard

I recently bought a 1990, 2 stroke, Mercury 5hp for my little duck rig. This is my first time ever messing with boats or motors, and i wanted to see if anybody could help me out here.

I was wondering how much oil i should put per gallon into the tank? Is it about 50/1 or 40/1? I just don't want to mess her up by putting too much or not enough oil in there.

And another question...what kind of oil? I was told i should use the Quicksilver oil. Would that work?

I'm sure that it would be like most lawn mower and trimmer 2 strokes I've used...50:1. I'm sure you could get the serial number and call them or look it up. Good luck.

I have a 3 horse yamaha and it takes 100:1 not sure on the merc though. I would probably go with 50:1
