Hey everyone,
First time posting here, but I am moving to Bozeman, Montana in three short weeks, and I am just wondering about duck and goose hunting. I am not looking for anyones secret spots or anything just looking to get pointed in the right direction. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!
Mitch
My only advice is have fun...... Lucky.
I don't know about right in Bozeman but I know that short drives will allow you some great hunting all around.
I've been there once (my brother goes to visit a buddy every year in Bozeman) and the hunting is awesome. We traveled northeast to Froid (sp?) which was a couple hours drive and had a great time. Medicine Lake area.
Good luck.

"Lucky"
that pretty much sums it up, thats the most beautiful part of North America IMO, plus wyoming, im pretty sure there is some great fowlin opprotunities up there also.
be sure to post up your reports!!!
look up a guy named Brad Ehrnman when you get out there. He's a great fly fishing guide and a heck of a hunter. He gets after it all.....ask around the fly shops....

You picked the right place to move to anyways, I'm not going to be of much help, but I can congratulate you on your decision!

While Bozeman is a gorgeous place to live, the nearby hunting is not near what it used to be. The places I hunted even 10 years ago are now all ranchettes. Still a great place with the mountains, the smaller town but with things to do, and of course the MSU Bobcats.
But you better be very prepared for some serious sticker shock when it comes to housing. It is out of control. I used to want to move back but not anymore.

I am one of 2 Pro Staffers in the whole state of Montana. I also am a graduate of MSU (95). I assume by your age you are just starting college. First of all great selection if that is in fact the case. Bozeman is a great place, although it has changed alot over the years. There is pretty decent hunting right around Bozeman. Start by checking out Canyon Ferry, then the lower Madison. Both are public areas that hold some ducks. The Dillon area has some decent ducks as well and is close to Bozeman. Good luck and hope to see you on the water. By the way, Sportsmans Warehouse just opened a new store in Bozeman that is TOTALLY stocked will Avery gear. The guys in their hunting section should also be able to offer some good advice.

Jeremy, thanks for the info. I am indeed going to be a Freshman at MSU, living in the dorms. I heard about the Sportsmans and was actually hoping I can find work there but who knows. I am really excited though!!
