View Full Version : Wigeon kind of weekend

I might be strange but I love hunting wigeon more than any other duck out there. They react well to the call and can consistently come into a good spread in groups of 10 - 25 birds. It was a great opener yesterday. 3 guys 21 wigeon and it didn't take us long. Took much longer to pack in Set up / pick up and pack out than it did to shoot our birds. The dog is beat today. She just started getting active about a hour ago... I think she had more fun than any of us did. She had some great marks and saved us a ton of steps. She was howling at the ducks pre-shooting light as they landed in the decoys. The first 4 retrieves in the first 5 minutes helped her calm down.

Sure would have been nice to have some FB wigeon.....

I had to crop the others out because although they will hunt with me I'm pretty sure they don't want to be seen with me :D

that dog is tearing after those birds.. nice looking hunt and great stack of widgeons

looks and sounds nice man... we dont see much wigeon round here just a few every now and then.. whats the limit for em' there

We shot 21 wigeon.... 3 guys 7 wigeon a piece. Limit is 7 birds a day here.

Wow that would be such a fun hunt! When you say the react to the call do you mean the wigeon call or a regular duck call...congrats on baggin some butes!

The wigeon whistle is the go to bread and butter BUT a hen wigeon call timed right can finish the biggest flocks of wigeon. ;)

I'm right there with you on the wigeon thing they are my favrote duck to hunt period I love the large late season spreads I have never seen wigeons this early in the season but I have seen 1-3 small flocks and shot 1 on saturday I know what you mean when you say the fullbody wigeons would come in handy I always see them grazing in the grass or in the shallow water where a fullbody would be perfect i hope GHG comes out with them soon. Congrats on the wigeon though!
