THose would be Feather lice/ Feather fleas....once there is a good frost or it remains cold for awhile, those bugs will dissapear.

They are always on the teal I shoot in early season but after that I dont see them until next year. I was always under the impression that they are harmless...

Bird louse - what you see are the adult bird louse that do not consume feathers but actual bird blood. They are species specific so unless you are a bird - they don't like human blood. Although later in the season you may not see the adults, rest assured eggs or their larvae are present.

Ridge - I would be more concerned with crab lice, which do consume human blood. LOL

Thankfully I dont have to worry about getting those from birds.... Haha

They may not like human blood but they do bite...I have been bitten in the past by them and they itch really bad, just like a mosquito bite.

My homing pigeons get those but we have a spray that we spary them with that kills the lice or whatever they are.
