Pre Scouting: None went to ol faithful
Decoys used:12 OS Blacks
2 OS Black butts
4 L.S Black headless feeders
4 OS Mallards
6 L.S Greenwing Teal
1 Old Black carrylite for nostalga
Gun used: Americas Favorite Shotgun , Remington 870
Shells Used 3'' Winchester #2 & #3
The day started off good , it was my first hunt of the year so I needed to knock off the rust , 1st shot of the day was a bust 3 buffleheads came in over the decoys responding to my diver call. Boom boom and the dog looking at me like whats up no birds down. Nothing is any better then when the dog is P.O at you. Then the Black ducks started to move, but I wasn't on the X . Flock after flock flew over , very annoying but being the first hunt and hearing there where no birds around I was pleased.
Finally after an hour and half I heard a load quack so I started on the call , back and fourth we went , he jump and flew withen about 250 yards , adn we kept our coversation going . He jump again and landed about 100 yards out and started to swim in quacking all the way when he got about 35 yards I came to my feet and he jump. First shot was for wind and altitude and the second was the bring down shot. He went about 80 yards and fell dead. So Cailey had a good long retreve first our first bird of the season. The second duck was a hen teal and she was no better had to work the call and she swam in for a jump shot.
All and all I called it a great morning . Nothing better and then the smell of marsh mud and a wet dog in the morning.
