hey guys, ive been checking out my buddies pond for a few days now and every morning it has ducks in it. This is the same pond we shot 5 miner bands out of and had about 200 ducks landing in it right after sunrise and we were in the middle of the pond picking up dead ducks. Next weekend bighonkers is coming down and we are both fricken antsy to get out there. I should sneak in a hunt before he comes down, he wouldnt know lol
heres some pics from today at about 10 am. There were more but i just snapped a few pics so we can see how/where to set up. We might need more than a dozen hotbuys or maybe no deeks at all. They seem to love this place. i counted just under 60 ducks in the pics and there were more scattered and hidden in weeds. I think we are going to set up on the side with the most ducks, last time we were setting up in the shallower spot where you see the little group of 10-15 ducks.

I would set up where the ducks are in that first pic. By the way it looks and sounds 1-2 dozen duck floaters should do the trick. Post up some pics after the hunt!

i zoomed in and was looking at them all and i had a question.. what are the ducks circled? Is the one on the right a canvasback?

I believe your right on that...the one on the left almost looks like a brant, but then again behind it you see something similar...it could be just the shade covering a mallard...cuz thats kinda what its body style looks like...? Idk thats wierd?

will do, this spot has gotten me my first ducks, and everytime we went we were always busy calling in ducks/shooting. We are going to switch our spot up to a part with more cover since we think the ducks saw us last time since a bunch circled about 10 times but wouldnt commit once the sun came out more. I dont think it was our calling since everytime the left, we got them to turn around again to take another peak. But at day break, they dont know what hit them. Ill post up a bunch of pics next weekend, even if we dont get any.

I think they're both drake mallards. I'm almost positive the left one is atleast.

well in that area, there is alot of woodies, teal and alot of mallards. We don't usually see cans floatin around marshes. The one on the left could be a woody. The one on the right i think is a mallard. its gonna be a blast next weekend mike. i cant even wait

i thought a woodie too at first but it looks way too big. if i had to guess i would say mallard on the left, and either mallard or can on the right

the one on the right is a canvasback, look at the shape of the beak.. I dont know about the one on the left but its head is kinda shaped like a wood duck but i cant tell.

i can tell you right now that that is not a woodie. they are practically black except for the yellow gold sides when sitting on the water. on the left is a mallard, the right a hen can.
