View Full Version : Question on sizing for Boaters Dog Parka

My dogs measurements are:

Neck 20"

Chest 30"

Will an XL work? I'm guessing that tigher is better than loose. The current vest I have now was tight and I just trimmed the neoprene with a scissors where needed. Can that be done to the boaters parka as well or do you need an exact fit?

Thanks!!

I would say if you have a retailer around that you can take the dog to with you and try one on.

Normally I would go with the idea that a little tighter is better. However this vest has a webbing strap around it that aids in the handle usage. With that strapping the vest does not stretch like the normal Neoprenes do.

Mike,

Dalton Outdoors carries them. Last I checked, they had a bunch of them. You may want to give them a call to see if they have your size. The number is 218-589-8679.

I think that your best size will be XL. The large is going to be 2" small in the chest and neck.

Thanks,

Rick, do you know when Dalton is going to get anymore power flags or a new shipment of decoys?

The boaters parka is a great vest. Hands down the best I've had on my dog. The fitting instructions on the Avery sporting dog website seem to be good guidelines to follow. MAKE SURE THE CHEST MEASUREMENT IS CORRECT FIRST. The neck measurement can be a little sloppy because you can trim some material from the front of the vest to accomodate any sloppiness in the armpit area, and it is bar-tacked and will NOT come unraveled when cut as instructed. It has BOTH zipper and velcro closure...this is why it is important that the vest fits snug instead of too loose / tight. For me it is a great piece of insurance for sending the dog onto the ice because the heavy duty handle and D rings on the vest permit the attachment of Kevlar cable on a spring loaded spool for those dangerous retrieves. Follow the instructions and you'll be golden!!

They have cancelled most everything on back order. There aren't many people waterfowling any more this year. Are there certain items that you are looking for? If so, they may do a special order for you.

I've been waitin for ffd lessers since august... and I am waiting for them to get a power flag or super flag, either one. They only have snow goose powerflags. I know a buddy wanted to buy wood duck floaters and they were out of those as well. Thanks Rick.

I'll send you a PM of another store to try. Dalton isn't going to take any more shipments because the freight on small orders kills the margin. They would actually loose money at retail because of shipping.

I think you are going to be better getting the bigger size. They do have some stretch, but you don't want it too tight.

Thanks,
