Hey guys, what is the best way to add motion to my big foot decoys? If the answer is bases, what style bases and can you add them to any of them? Resters, feeders, actives?

freddy, you can add motion cones to your bigfoots and use stakes with them. i knew a guy that did it, and i believe he added an extra washer in between the cone and the back of the decoy so it would fit right. you will have to cut a 3-4 inch hole in the bottom of your decoys to add the cone. it should work and you should get some more answers or someone that has done it to help you out as well..good luck

Big foot makes something now, Im not sure exactly what they are called, im sure somebody else on here has the answer, It would be easier to use the big foot bases but cheaper to install motion cones.

Indeed stakes will add motion with some breeze, but also remember the Power Flag. Awesome tool to have with you. We try to run 2 minimum. We also have one of Randy Bartz poles.

I hear you Jim! I believe "Flagging" is as important as calling. There are times when I even don't call and just "Flagem In". Thanks

Freddy...I tried adding the motion cones to a few of the older style bigfoots, but it DID NOT turn out good. I would not recommend doing this to the bigfoots at all. I would invest in dynamic decoy motion, or some other motion before that. They have to balance just right, and the movement is not very realistic if it occurs at all, and if you get enough wind to move them good it is usually excessive at that. I would recommend adding a few GHG's for fullbody motion, or some form of motorized motion. I cannot comment on bigfoots new motion system as I have not tried it.
GOOD LUCK!

Go with the motion cones. Just take a jig saw and cut the center out where the feet snap in then drill a hole 17 inches from the tail(I think it was 1/8 bit) put the rubber warsher between the decoy and cone and that's it. If you want to add leggs snap the feet off and cut the nibble of then cut straight up the leg at the top then cut the bottem off the leg to lenght take the nible and glue it into the leg upside down drill a hole in both ends and the decoy run a snall bungei cord though it (like you find at a dollor store 20 for 3.00)and your finish. We have only done the up rite ones so far.The cones are better because they are a lot cheaper and I think they work better just my 2 cents. good luck

Another option to try is www.DynamicDecoys.com . I have run these for years and they really help on the calm days. I run four sets in the landing hole, more often then not the birds want to land right on the motion. They work well with Bigfoot decoys.

i added the avery motion cone system to some of mine, it works great. it's not that hard to do either, just take the feet off and cut the cone out, leave the notches for the feet so you can put them back on if you need to( i used a razor blade) then find the balance point and screw the cone in and your ready to go. they move pretty good in little wind. it works but i like my new FFD's better!
good luck!

I would suggest trying the RM System. One on this thread said that they didn't do good, but I have had others that said they worked great. You may try one and see how it comes out.

I would say that the motion cone is the way to go. Motion in the spread is a real killer, especially on the feeders. If you put the motion system in the decoys and decide you don't want that much motion, you can always put the feet back on some of the decoys.

Hey Christian, I'm not familar with the "RM system", what is it. Is this the motion cones? These Big Foots are all the older style, I'm not sure if I want to mess with them in fear of screwing them up!

Fred,
The RM System is the cone, Field Stake, and all the hardware to install the cone. You do have to cut a hole in the bottom of the decoy to install the cone. The cone has two options. One allows full motion back and forth. The other locks the decoy down so there is little or no movement.

Thanks Rick, I just never heard it called the "RM System"

I added motion cones to my BF decoys, worked great. However, only do the upright birds. The motion stakes are too short for the feeders.

I would also look into putting the ghg motion cone on your bigfoots. I have put them on all my Bigfoots and in my opinion, work very nicely.
The bigfoots are alittle more difficult since you have to cut out a hole in the buttom of the decoy and the balance point seems to be alittle more touchy, but you will be glad if you do it.

Camohunter,
Did you put the cones on your feeders as well? Could you also give me a measurement from the tail of the decoy across the back to where the balance point might be? How big of a hole did you cut in the bottom of the decoy and was it where the legs attach?
Thanks!

The best way to find the perfect balance point is to use a stick with a point on it. Balance points can vary a little from decoy to decoy.

I'm getting mixed answers on if I should do my feeders or not, any thoughts? Also, what are the correct field stakes to get? The round bases that sit on the ground or the ones you have to stab into the ground? I'm thinking the round type base, just in case the ground is frozen!

I would think the big foot feeders would not move well since the head sticks down so close to the ground.. if you have any standing stubble or large clumps of mud it will get caught on that

They only come with the stakes. You would have to buy the round bases separately.

I saw a product that was a flat motion base the works really well with Big foots and you just attach the deke to the top I can't remember the name but I'll try to get it from my friend who has them. No cutting or drilling needed either.
