I have a situation I don't want to jump to conclusions on...what do you guys think. I call a couple of fellow hunters who were classmates of mine from highschool for the past three days and tell them how well birds are moving and hunting is excellent. I ask them if they are going hunting this am and they are busy. No problem, but when I show up at the spot they are all there and have been since midnight. I realize public hunting is just that but why not tell me you already have plans to hunt with someone else. Next year will be different, I will not give them info on bird movement and they can figure it out on their own. S@#t on me once, shame on you, s@#t on me twice shame on me....there will not be a twice, sorry!

It's a hard thing (but you find out quick who your true friends are).... I feel for you but at least you know now. It's also why now at age 33 I only have 3-4 guys I hunt with and we keep our mouths shut. We don't say where or when or most times how we did to anyone.
Cheers,
Adam

Welcome to high school life. That is the hard part about high school hunting. You just got your liscense, you start hunting with different people. Its fun because a good hunt is only a phone call away but you really got to choose wisely who you hunt with.

That's why I never post pics or give details to anyone. It's not just high school kids that act like that.

My buddy has some really sweet hunting spots that he has shown me and we have slayed them there. We don't tell anyone where they are. If you want to keep those great spots, you gotta clam up. Find another hunter you can trust and that you really enjoy hunting with and share that info with the understanding that noone else is to know of your hot spots.

I think this happens to every hunter at least once...its unavoidable it seems...ha I would say dont tell people anything unless they are in your normal hunting crew...thats just what I have learned over the seasons...kinda sad it has to be that way though.

You will found out that you have a few hunting partners that you can trust. i hunt with two guys and I only talk to one other about how the hunting is. Once you find a good spot you have to keep it to your party.
There is an unwritten rule about hunting with your partners. "If you take me to a spot public or not, I will never return to it without you, or without your permission."
I live by that rule and the guys I hunt with respect and act the same way. Those are true friends.

That is why if I take anyone hunting they have to wear a blindfold from the house to the blind, pledge on pain of death they will remain silent as to the location, and never return or mention the bag for the day.
Just kidding - I just hunt with a select few.

send them to the other side of the county next time, it happens to all of us. i hate to lie, but this is a special scenario where i will, especially at a public place. sandbag the heck out of them!

All this BS just shows how many lazy A$$ people wont go and put the effort into their own scouting, they gotta have someone else do it fro them. Not cool man, not cool at all.

I have been a professional outfitter for 14 years. I have guided fisherman and hunters from all across the country. None of my clients have ever come back to sneak into my spot. None of them have ever been standing in my blind in the morning. They realize they have paid to learn something. I teach, they learn and we dont' step on each others toes. It's simple that way.
However, my "friends" have all screwed it to me several times.
Lets face it, in hunting and fishing anyone can go buy the best decoys, get a bad ass spread and a Benelli SBEII. Anyone can buy a great Sage fly rod, have the hottest fly pattern on the river, and even the most bad ass boat.
But NO ONE knows what you know...........
I have learned to be polite, share general information and be as helpful as I can. I give tips, advice, reccomendations, and never give bad information (although in may not be ALL the right information).
All you have in this world, is what you know,......
until you tell them.
Lesson learned?
Share your knowledge wisely, because its all you really have to share.

acg2nd, you shouldn't talk to them all next season and not give them any info like you said. Then at the end of the season, email him all your kill pics titled "Got a few this year". If you do really well next fall, you can just rub it right in his face.
Normally, our crew consists of myself and 2 others (Kingkilla is one of them). We have hunted with a one other guy this year and it just isn't working out too well. First of all, he has no decoys so he of course calls us when he finds birds. I have a boat so I can always go if/when I want. But what pisses me off is that he has told me that him and his buddy were going out in his boat and they tell me their full so I can't come. If I didn't have a boat, I would be really mad but of course I do. He even had the nerve one day to call me to see if HIS best friend could come with me in the morning because he had too many people going with him.
