View Full Version : Reapinted my FFD's - Whatcha think?

I had my roommate paint my FFD's this past weekend. the actives i have are very very light colored and in some spots white, even with the double bags. I just wanted to ask the Avery Prostaffers input on the details. Most of the geese that we hunt are of a darker color, so these match pretty well. You'll notice the necks aren't painted yet - i had him darken in the black at the neck and touch up the tails. One other questions/concern: the heads on these FFDs don't stay on very well, my progrades never come off and these do, is that normal with the FFDs?

my friend is a professional airbrush artist/painter. he's pretty good at too, he's detailed cars, glass painting, cloth painting, etc. He'd never painted a goose cause he was unfamilar with the market, but now enjoys it. He just finished with my buddy's 44 progrades just touchin' up the heads and tails.

what did you use to paint them with ?
i did something similar with mine, just used some krylon ultra flat brown (not the fusion but that works okay too) and sprayed the back down. after a few times in and out of the bags the friction brings out the feather detail (lighter color).

it takes him about 20 minutes a deke. he's pretty fast but detailed.

Those look real nice!!. For comparison here are some FFD Hardcores I fullyflocked and repainted with a GHG ProGrade(the large on the left upper)
and a DSD lessor unflocked behind it. The GHG I fullyflocked and repainted.
I had some of the same FFD and they looked like your unpainted one after about 8 hunts. The repainted very nice like yours did.

As far as posting pix - when you REPLYor post a THREAD just scroll down to the "Additional Options" under where you type your message, you'll find the "Image Shack" Toolbar... click on [BROWSE...] and a same search window will appear, find the picture from your files on your computer and select it. Then click [POST IT] once it returns to the message screen. ImageShack will open in another window/page and start loading your picture. It is done when you can see the picture in the upper left corner of the ImageShack window/page. While still on the ImageShack window/page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the last one called "Direct Link to Image", Highlight the contents of that box (the web address) and copy it by either right clicking on the highlighted address or by holding the Control button down and pressing the C key. Then return to the message screen and put the cursor where you want your picture (within your typed message, for most it's at the bottom of the message you're typing) and then click on the insert picture icon that looks like a set of mountains with a yellow background then small window at the top left corner of your screen will appear called "Explorer User Prompt" and it asks you to type in the URL or "web address" that you want for the picture. Backspace to delete the http:// that is already highlighted in the box and then right click in the box and select PASTE or hold the Control button down and press the V key and then your link should show up in the box and then click [OK] and it should have put the website address in where you are typing your message. It should appear within the brackets [http://], if you want to post more than one picture just move your cursor down a line or two and repeat the above steps (by spacing your pictures they don't run right together as the viewer scrolls down each picture actually has a top and bottom edge to it, just looks better. Finish what you want to type and always Preview your Post to see if the picture is there and click [SUBMIT]. FYI - you can close the ImageShack pages after you have entered the link on your message. ImageShack will open a new page for every picture you post so just close them all when you're done.)
I hope that helped - there are a lot of people on this website who can't figure out how to use this feature - it's a must when selling - heck everyone wants to see what they're buying and we even want to see what you're talking about!!!

OZ ... I don't know why those FFD's I traded to you went so light. Here is a picture of a pair of what are now your dekes the day the UPS man dropped them off at my office in August. I only hunted them 5 or 6 times and always double bagged them. Looks like the paint did not hold to the flocking.
In August ...

Oz,
We had the same problem with our FFD's. They were way to light for the geese we have around here. We had our entire spread of 132 FFD's repainted and now they look awesome.

It sure helps to have friends that are good with an air brush doesn't it. LOL

No big deal - I knew they were lighter but then after you hunt them 10 times even with the bags it's going to rub off. - glad my old lessers are killing geese for ya! Looks like you had a great day!! talk to you later - OZ
