I'm finally going to be able to get home after this semester is done with in about a week. Has anyone in Virginia seen much activity, ducks? geese? I'll be mostly up on the tidal Potomac but also maybe down around Poquoson, and possibly the Chick. I've spent the last 4 months hunting in South Dakota so some salt marsh will be a good change of pace.

Lots of buffies and old squaws flying around the mouth of Back river. Plenty of buffies and scoter in Poquoson river. Saw a couple small knots of Bluebills a couple weeks ago before and during the split. Going out in about 30 min to Back river. I'll giva a report to ya on what I saw when I get in.

I'll be back on the 22nd, I plan to hunt the potomac area around Coloniel Beach most of the time but I was asking about the south bay becasue I might get a invite to hunt Cow island on the refuge hunt and some swamps down in New Kent and Sufolk area. I also might make it out to Mathews atleast one day.

They do seem to hang out with you Maryland boys a little too long each Jan, :D JK but I just got off the phone, my buddy got out North of VA beach last week and killed some bills and 4 old squaws so a few birds have made it down on time.

I have two blinds around cow island. Inside the island there are no ducks unless you plan on shooting early or late. The only ducks around are out on the river; Buffleheads and Scoters.

If I get the chance to go to Cow Island it will be probaly be the second week of Jan. but I'm not sure yet. Last year about this time we had good numbers of Mallards and Blacks up on the Potomac so if they are there we will probaly stay up there, if not thats when we might get on the horn to head south.

I have hunted Cow Island for about 4-5 years now and I wouldn't waste my time if I were you. Like I said in an earlier post, I have two blinds there and I don't plan on hunting either one. If you have a floating blind you could probably come down and shoot some birds.
