Well,
Today was truly an incredible day. With 10-15mph N-NE winds and sunny skys predicted we expected an intial rush and slow picking from then out.
We couldn't have been any further from what actually happened:
We saw and worked THOUSANDS of birds!
From before sunrise until we left we had birds in the air.
All said and done, at least 5 boxes of shells were shot:o I nearly ran out while Mike did. Thankfully I had asked Joe to bring extras.
Myself and mike knew how to shoot thankfully, and joe...well, (lets just say he might as well have been shooting powder filled shells)!
I ended the day with a perfect day!
I got my 6 ducks, 2 geese AND 2 Brant.
Only other thing i could have shot were mergies or sea ducks, but we weren't in an area where they were.
My species tally was 2 widgeon drakes, 1 Goldeneye Drake, 1 Bufflehead Drake, 1 Bluebill Hen, 1 Blackduck Hen, 2 Canada Geese and 2 Brant.
Best thing was that the brant were my first ever. After missing horribly on the first set of brant we shot at, I took my 2 down with one shot on the next flock. I guess after seeing Joe and Mike shoot the brant out of the flock I wiffed on I realized how it was done.
All totataled, we shot 6 geese (limit) 4 brant and 12 ducks.
Out species totals were:
3 Black Ducks (2 Drakes, 1 Hen)
3 Widgeon (2 drakes, 1 hen)
2 Buffleheads (drakes)
2 Mallards (1 Drake, 1 Hen)
1 Goldeneye (drake)
1 Blue Bill (hen)
4 Brant
6 Geese
It was truly an awesome day.
