Hi gang.

My cousin has had a major coyote problem on the farm and we need to get rid of it. I was just wondering if any of you knew of any kind of traps we could catch it in? Last summer, I tried everything from leg traps to just sitting and waiting for it, but never seem to see it. We want to order something off the internet that would allow to catch this coyote because he is disturbing things on the farm. All we caught last year was coons and skunks. So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tyler

Whats attracting them? Use that against them by baiting them, and then feed them some .223 rounds.;)

talk to your local conservation officer; they would probably know an experienced trapper or predator hunter in your area you can contact. theres nothing better than learning trapping or calling from an old salty pro.

Find a bunch of road kill or guts of some kind and make a bait pile, sit near that and blow a rabbit call and when they come blast em,

problem is guys, I only have an Extrema 2....so I would need them to come in close. Can I get em with a 12 gauge?

what you need is an ad in the local paper. look for one that says free kittens or free rabbits. Go get you a new pet for a morning, tie its back legs together and then tie on a big rock. That thing making all that noise is better than any caller or ecaller you will find. The old smart dogs have seen it all. Find a good LIVE noise maker and get so that the wind crosses you from right to left or left right. then back up about 60 yds and let that ole heavy T shot or Dead coyote loads fix the problem.

Hevi-Shot makes a great Coyote load and yes it will work just fine. I wouldnt reccomend getting a kitten either.

yeah depending on your local laws; it could be animal cruelty to tie up a kitten. another tactic to try in conjunction with a bait pile is set up a trail cam and try to pattern the coyotes; probably they are coming in at night, and if you can get a pattern on them you wont have to burn your calling or visual presence during the day if they are not active.

What is the actual problem with the coyotes and the farm?

I'd recommend you look for someone in your area who has experience calling coyotes. They are smart creatures and are easily alerted. However, that's exactly what makes them so much fun to hunt. If you can find someone to show you the ropes I think you'll enjoy calling coyotes.

well guys...alot of us from here hunt them, if he has a real problem you should organize a push. I know I could round up as many guys as you would want in about 2 hours. you guys could even be the posters since its your spots. WE do it to get rid of the yotes, nothing else, and is VERY effective. Shoot a pm if you want to line something up.

guys, this is all awesome info, however I am sure the coyotes come out in the middle of the night. What time should I sit out there, night or morning? Do I need scent lock ? I know coyotes are super smart, so I need to be perfect. Any traps would be perfect though, such as from Cabelas or anything. Anybody got any experiece catching a yote?

A carcass soaked in anti freeze works wonders on pesky yotes, they eat and lick the thing until they poison themselves works well on barn cats too, it has something to do with the sweet smell or taste.

If you can't do it quickly.. don't do it all. Respect your game and enjoy your hunting privileges.

that would be a good idea, but not for this place. Theres not really a bush or anything to push. and im sure the coyotes are probably coming off a different property which we dont have permission to.

well i have really good luck with snares. road kill or anything dead animal...and make a dugout..just a little channel on one side and set a snare on each side of it....and if that dont work for you...wait for full moon and clear sky...and situate yourself with an e caller about 40 yards away....make sure you are upwind of the call....turn it on and play it for a 5 minutes then shut it off...turn it on in about 5 minutes and then play it for a 15 minutes....if the coyote comes from behind you dont get spooked..a coyote will not walk with the wind towards the e-caller...he will make a big loop and will walk into the wind trying to get scent of you or the e-caller...scent lock never hurts...i use it all the time...good luck
