Has there been any talk about making mallard sleeper shells? It would be great to see something similar to the canada sleeper shells so that you could put out 5 or 6 dozen on the ice when things start to freeze up. The expense and storage of doing this with the full bodies makes it a little difficult.

How about just sleeper heads to go with the existing active shells?

A one piece stackable sleeper would be fantastic but at very least sleeper heads are needed!

Not happening in the near future. Too many other things in the works.

I think there would be a demand for mallard sleeper shells. It would be nice to put out a doz. or more along the ice edge when hunting open water and not have to spend alot of money.
Of course, the shells would have a little disadvantage on realism and also when the wind is blowing hard, I would think they would move around more then a fullbody.
A sleeper head for active shells would be a nice idea too. They wouldnt look as good as a fullbody sleeper or shell sleeper that was carved that way but would be the ticket for changing decoy appearance and not spending alot of $

In the meantime you could use the sleeper mallard floaters, though the keel would cause them to sit at an angle.

Yes Rick I realize there are lots of other decoys in the works, but really how hard would it be to carve a male & female sleeper head to go on the active shells.

It all takes time. Doing this will put something else on the shelf. Then, the guys who wanted that decoys would be mad. There are some things that just have to wait.

I have been using sleeper and rester fullbody mallards with sleeper Canada shells. It works good here, I wish we had the big bunch's of mallards like some of you guy's.

Should have just made the floating mallards sleepers with removable keels! :)

Yep Rick you are right, and I would be one of those moaning as to why you didn't get the 5/8 Canada goose shells, fullbody feeder pintail/wigeon/gadwall/wood duck done, and the sea ducks, mallard surface feeder, the floater wood duck redone and................ Did I miss any? hahaha
I think we waterfowl hunters are the most demanding and pissing/moaning hunters out there. I know I am!!!!!!!!

Removable keels for these is what I had expected and would have used. They can be used but a sleeper head to go on the active shells would have been the best option.

Here's what you guys could do in the mean time. I made these this summer and worked awesome along sandbars and on ice.

The geese deeks will sell for more of a profit then a duck will. So some day after every goose pose is done. After all us duck hunters have the FB mallard and pintail to choose from.

Thanks for the idea. I saw that thread when you started it and did do some and they turned out really good but I thought I'd ask about future plans for sleeper heads for the shells. I may just try to make some foamer sleeper heads for the active shells.
