Hi guys,
I hunt around 200 acres of private land, my family's, in the Chicago suburbs (the new goose capital of the US). We hunt out of the same pit blind each day, and get tremendous numbers of Canadas. We do this each day of the season except when we get our typical 2-3 week lull before the new birds come in. I would be willing to trade out a hunt or 2 with experienced hunters who offer something different than the greater Canadas I hunt (we also do kill a lot of mallards and wood ducks). Believe it or not, I am mainly looking for a hooded merganser. That is one of the few birds that has eluded me. If someone has a spot with a lot of hoodies I would like to talk about swaping a hunt. I also would be willing to talk to anyone else that can offer a different kind of duck hunt.

We get covered up with them, a couple mornings we decoyed twice as many of them as any other duck. Sometimes its a bit ridiculous.

Looks like my little comment on northern Illinois being the new goose capital ruffled some feathers out east. There certainly wasn't meant to be any offense. I was just trying to draw attention to what a hot spot N Illinois has become. However, historically speaking southern Illinois used to be considered the goose capital of the US. At least that is what anyone from S Illinois will tell you. Now the geese just do not migrate that far south like they used to. They end up hanging up in N Illinois. Also due to a massive influx of retention ponds due to record rates of homebuilding we have a huge local population of Canadas. So my conclusion is that if S Illinois used to be the goose capital and we now have most of there geese and a lot of our own, it is not much of a stretch to refer to N Illinois as the goose capital.

I still think MN harvests the most Canada Geese yearly. At least that's what the USFWS reports had shown a few years back.

I can see why many people have a bad opinion of the east coast. Personally the people I have hunted with from Maine, New Hampshire, and Virginia have been great. Then again I have never hunted with anyone from Delaware, from the looks of it I have no desire to either.

I bet NJ has more geese the Maryland...and I'm serious
As for hoodies.....You can shoot a ton out on the salt marshes....Some days we see hundreds of them....Shooting them on the other hand, not my cup of Tea......All turdgansers are lumped under what I call "flying monkies" cormies being #1

How many birds per person can be shot per day?
It's only 2 here. If we could kill 3-4 a day....MN would have a big run for their money.
N.IL is just sick with geese.....sick I tell you.

Beaver pond country is hooded mergie country and we have lots of both here in my neck of the woods. Lots of ringnecks too and we usually get a few of both each year that are banded. Walleye fishing is awesome in fall as well, a little cast & blast adventure!!This fall is out as plans are already made with my buddies coming up from the U.S but maybe next year, let me know....
