How many of you guys have done it??? We're seeing more and more while we're out field huntin for honkers. Just wondering how you set up for them as aposed to honkers. Looking at getting a couple dozen fullbody mallards this summer.

I've done it and had some success. Some guys set the ducks away from the honkers, and some mix them in with the geese. I have done it both ways and have killed birds.

We do it a lot. If we know there are ducks using the field normally they will come before the geese. We'll set our normal honker spread first and hide blinds in with the geese. Then I like to put the mallard fullbodies right in the killhole with 2 or 3 spinners. 20 yards out front. This seems to work well for us.

We field hunt malls quite often and I'll put 2-3 doz. fb mallard dekes right in with the honkers on the downwind side generally. I will also run 2-3 lucky ducks right by the blinds so you can shut them off when you have geese in the air.

We Did It A Few Times This Year
We Use A Dozen Duck Floaters And Floaters
And We Seen Geese In The Field So We Put A Dozen Over Size Shells Out
The Ducks Didnt Want To Land In The Duck Decoys They Would Land In The Goose Decoys
Thats How we Set Up

Definately do it!! You will be impressed with the results, there is nothing more fun than shooting greenheads in your face in the corn.

We set up 2-3 doz fullbody mallards in our goose spread. I like to put at least 3 spinners out and I always put them next to our blinds or pits. This way we can turn them off when the geese come and plus mallards will try to land right on top of the spinners every time!

i found a spot that every year the ducks have a roost pond and i hunt the field next too the pond and killem for one week then there gone. But i hunt alone most the time so i'm done in ten min. anyway but it's fun when there's hundreds of ducks in the decoys every day of thew week.

I also forgot to mention if you put the fullbody mallards out in front of everything like I mentioned once the geese start flying move them back in with the goose deeks. I've noticed geese don't like to fly over the mallard decoys to get to the honkers and you'll still have a chance at working mallards if they come at the same time as the geese.

We do it too. Just make sure to turn the spinners off when the geese work. If you dont, that will just leave more geese for the rest of us!

All it takes is the right field and a spinner. We have hunted over just mallard shells, mallards mixed with geese or just goose decoys. The only better than shooting mallards in the field is woodies! I got a spot that we get to do that every year for about 2 weeks and it is a blast!

Well field hunting ducks is the only way I duck hunt. I hunt water in early teal season or youth season but more than 98% of the time its field hunting. I have really good success. What I do is seperate my ducks from my geese in the erly or mid part of season. But when I get snow in the late part of the season I mix them together. The reason why is because in snow have trouble walking depending on how deep it is. Also the geese pat down all the snow and dig up the food out of it aswell. So I put all my fb ducks behind my geese and mixed in withthem when snow on the ground. Hope this helps.

I've never been out field hunting. A guy has everything locked up around my places with leases, plus I wouldn;t have a clue on how to set up...

my future stepdad will only go waterfowling for mallards; and he will only hunt them in fields, and he will only take a robo duck out. he has areas that he hunts near traditional roost ponds that the migrators use fall after fall. this fall they were able to hammer mallards whenever they wanted, even with 4 or 5 other spreads in the area. get into the field that the ducks are feeding in and it doenst take much to shoot em. as far as my preference goes, we set up a normal goose decoy spread, with one or two robos right behind the blinds (to shut them off if geese are working) and if somebody owns some, we use the 5/8 mallard shells around the robos. we learned a new trick with the robos this fall; probably other guys doing it too but im not quite going to give that one up...:D

I do it all time in Nodak. We just set up a couple Robo's right in the kill hole with a few FB Mallards and we usually kill them. Sometimes have shot them with just goose decoys to.

We do it whenever there are enough ducks to do it...I'll take field over water any day!
