Our oldest daughter Dana graduated this past Friday May the 30th from Yuma High School here in Yuma, Arizona. She and her fellow Yuma High Criminals walked the line starting at 7:00 pm. This is a very proud day for her as well for our family and friends. More importantly for me as I never made that trek. I joined the Marine Corps and Uncle Sam educated me in the finer art of being a Devil Dog! So she has accomplished something I never did, and I love her dearly for listening to me telling her all the time, Dana please don't do what I did and make that mistake. Well she listened and did extremely well. All through her years at Yuma High she only got into one small spell of trouble. She competed in sports and was the Captain of the Girls Swim Team this year who won the City and Regionals Championships. Her younger sister Blanche was also on the team and it was great to see the sibling companionship and love and respect they not only shared with one another but to their teammates as well. You know for coming from a guy that wasn't all that of a model guy during my high school days, my Lil Girl just flat sailed high above her pops and I am extremely proud of her. She is going to stay here with us and attend Arizona Western College to knock out all her general studies and then persue a career as a Veternarian. She will most likely head to UC Davis or possibly take an Internship with the USDA. She already landed herself and good paying job for the summer and just continues to shine. Please join me in congratulating Dana on her accomplishment!

Thanks Rob!

The name Criminals and the mascot (Crim Head) are specific to the Yuma area due to the Yuma Territorial Prison and the Wild West history of Yuma, Arizona. The Yuma High Criminals are the only school in the country with this title. Some think it is a bad thing, but if you look outside the box and understand the history of this place we call home, it makes all the more sense. The class of 2008 earned more than 3.5 million in scholarships and it was the largest graduating class in the 99 year history of the school!

GO CRIMINALS :D

Congrats to you and Dana! Is there anywhere I can order Yuma High Criminals gear? Seriously, I would love to wear a t-shirt or hoodie to the high school I teach at.

Adam,

Shoot me a pm with size and addy and I will see what I can do.

Rob,

Here is another lil tidbit about the Crims.

"Yuma High School is the oldest standing high school in Yuma, Arizona. It was erected in 1909 and earned its mascot, the Criminal, after the school burned down and the students had to finish their classes in the Yuma Territorial Prison. The football team also went on to win the State title and the nickname was given by other schools, it stuck and was later officially adopted. YHS is the only school in America that has a copyrighted high school mascot."
