what are water conditions and what do the hatches look like in your area.
i live in the u.p of michigan right on lake superior lots of bogs and inland lakes have water they hadent had in years. seams every lake has hooded or commen merg chicks lots of mallerd chicks and i found a few golden eye chicks. but their are no geese i found one pair off geese with 2 chicks.
and i have found lots of ring neck pairs but few seam to have chicks with them.
all an all i say an averge year for ducks but a below averge for geese.

Our hatch didn't turn out so great. We had a heavy snow storm in late April that really messed it up.

it was a "ok" year in northern delaware. Last year was better but there are fair amounts of young running around

Not so good on the hatch this year here snow in april really hurt. But the water is as high as I can ever remember the water where we put our blind is about 3 feet deep might have to make alternate plans this year for the blind.

God I was hoping this was about something completely different:D
But on topic, I have not noticed many babies at all, this whole year, and after the storms hit, I have yet to see a single baby here.
But on our way up to the ole family vacation I saw a family of geese where the youngins had their feathers already, couldn't believe it.
The lake we stayed on had some baby geese and ducks.

Im not 100 percent convinced yet that April snow had too much of an affect on the breeding. I am looking forward to when these guys can fly so I can get a real good grasp on how many are around. I am not in panic mode just yet. Bring on September.

Comparing to years past, this is a rough one for sure, the bird #s are way down from what i have seen. We will all see in sept when they are flying around.

I have seen quite a bit of geese with little ones and not as many ducks, but I have more geese that nest near my house than ducks, but over all I have seen a good amount

when i was coming back from the shore last week, i saw geese with a lot of babys that didnt look like babys anymore, 6 to 8 birds per family is what i was seeing so i guess it was a pretty good hatch

Well, I'm not in a traditional duck prodcution area here in southeast Texas, but we have a couple species that call this area home during the summer. It's been relatively dry compared to the last few years and I'm not seeing as many young mottled ducks as last year and have yet to see and Fulvous Whistling Ducks or Black-bellied Whistling Duck brood yet this summer. One of the biologists I'm working with this summer did see a brood of Blue-winged teal last week while trying to catch mottled ducks. He said they were almost fully grown.
