View Full Version : Ruff Stand
I have some cabelas points that are burning a hole in my pocket. I am thinking about picking one of these up but I am not sure how much use it will get. I can think of probably 2 or 3 times I could have used one of these. One of the times was out in South Dakota hunting some of the marshes. The other was opening day here in the marsh.
It is something I would use but not sure how much for the 200 bucks. The other use I thought I could use it for it hunting out of my boat if my buddy brings a dog. The way my boat blind is I can hunt one dog out of the front but the back is a pain.
Have you guys used a stand just outside the boat? If so does anyone have some pictures of doing this.

I don't have any pictures of this, but it is a very effective method of hunting your dog out of a boat in shallow water. We also use them along side some of our big permanent blinds, just set them along side the blind instead of building on a big ramp/dog hide. If there is any situation it would allow me to hunt my dog, even if was only two to three times....it would be worth it to me. Leaving him at home takes the better part of the fun out of the hunt.
I would never leave the dog at home. But I have run her out of the back of my boat which is a pain in the rear.
She basically has to launch over the outboard to get out. She is pretty athletic but not a smart way, to many bad things can happen. Only hunted her once like this.

If you ever hunt water I would recommend it. In the boat, standing in the trees, in a marsh, whatever....this is one of the best investments you can make. Keeps the dog dry in thigh to ankle deep depths. I and a friend of mine always bring two regardless if there is one dog or two...makes a great place for bags and gear while not being used as a dog stand when ground is nowhere in site. Lightweight, VERY sturdy, and folds up....what a great product!!
Give it a try...you will not be disappointed.

Like Derek said; it is a great place to keep your gear dry as well. It is big enough that you could sit on the edge with your dog on the stand as well. It is a great product and you won't be disappointed with the purchase.
Solid product, use ours for dogs, and generally keeping stuff out of the marsh.

It's just nice to have a dry spot to set stuff when hunting on cattail edges. We use ours a lot for putting cameras on while setting up for product photos.

I use mine all of the time nad not just for hunting. I use it as a table at the line when I train during the summer, I use to as a FF table, I use it to brush the dogs out so I don't have to bend way over. Last year I used my stand maybe half a dozen times and have used it since the at least twice as much in the off season as I did during the season. Very useful in lots of applications.

The Ruff Stand...
Great place for the dog...
Good place to sit next to the dog...
Great force table
Good lunch table
Great judges table
Good place to clean birds in the field
There are some good ways to use it in training...be sure you don't overdo it on dry ground...that kind of mpact on the dogs shoulders can be tough down the line.
Good place to stand and handle if you need elevation
Great place for gear that must stay dry
Great place to get cold and tired little guys out of the water
Good way to get some elevation for little guys to shoot..(You hold onto them and don't shoot!)
Good seat for a couple guys in a boat
Out of the thousands that were sold last year...I know of one guy from LA. who wasn't happy with his. He had his dog leaving the stand from a east/west leg position as opposed to North/South leg position. North and South works better if you don't have a tree around to strap the shoulder starp too.
If this is the Maxx I think it is and you hunt and train as much as I think you do....you'll be happy with one and use it plenty enough to feel like you got your money out of it.
Lots of these suggestions here exceed the max weight limit...and I've done it a bunch, and mine has held up very well (3 years worth), BUT....well you know what I'm saying.
I believe in it more than the guy who runs things at Avery....but I've used one quite a bit more than he has too.
I know Mack's, Scheels, Cabela's, Gun Dog Supply and has them....
Who else has them fellas?

I am sure that Travis knows of some local shops in your area that will have them also.

I've been tryin to decide between the ruff stand and the field stand. I like the idea of being able to attatch the ground force blind to the field stand. If anybody who has experience trying this I would appreciate your input. Not sure how often I would use the stand with the blind but like the idea of being able to but I also like the smaller platform of the ruff stand. Wish I had more money because then I would just buy both :D

Maxx, Scheels, Frontier, or Sportsmans will either have one or order one for you.
Yep this is the same Maxx.
I will pick one up this fall. I typically save up my cabelas points and buy something waterfowl related during the early fall.
I really could have used one in SD last year. The thing I want it for the most is using it with my boat when I have two dogs hunting. The back of my boat with the blind just sucks to run a dog out of.

It is definitely worth it....Like Tony said it opens up even more opportunities to take your dog hunting than before.

The only tweaking we did was make a very few in BuckBrush and MarshGrass.
We are working on some accessories that you'll be able to add to your stand to help you carry a gun, maybe add a set of straps to help you on the big walks....Tom Matthews has designed the start of a pretty good little blind to help break your dog up if you get stuck out in the open.
But, we'll need to use this season to test all this stuff...so no major changes on the Ruff other than the new camo options.
They should be hitting the stores anyday now...

By far the best piece of equipment I picked up last year!!! Hunted the dog off of it during the season and been training off of it all summer. It's one of the few things that I take with me on every trip.
