I am interested in painting my older FFD full bodies, the '05 decoys that were lighter colored. Any help with what kind of paint should be used and what air brush to purchase would be great!

p/m Mark Hackbarth, he should be able to help you out. I bought some of his custom painted lookers.

There was a real good thread on this sometime back.

Was it done with an airbrush or just regular spray paint? I don't remember.

Airbrushing does a great job.

The only problem is if any flocking has rubbed off those spots will show up a differant "texture". You can fix those before painting though.

Forgot to mention I used to use a Pasche, but two years ago I bought a Badger for about $80.00 and could not be happier. Probably painted over 300 goose decoys with it so far and no problems.

Be sure to get a "flat" no shine paint and thin it to get a really good spray pattern.

With practice you can get some awesome feather details.

I just redid a bunch of older Progrades and some very old carrylites.
All FFD'ed and then airbrushed.

You will have to airbrush them. If you try a regular brush, you will get too much paint on them and matte down the flocking.

I just did my 04's-05's. Im a Sales Rep for Sherwin Williams so I matched up the color from a stuffer that was given to me. Its pretty close. I didnt worry too much about extreme feather detail because I was able to achieve it by shading the pattern on the decoy. I just followed the pattern on the decoys

I used Superpaint exterior flat, it was sprayed through an HVLP system that I own. The paint bonded well to the flocking.

Here are some pics

I would hit a little lighter highlight color in there too, it seems to go from really light to really dark, adding a mid tone in some areas would help.

But they will work.
