Just wondering if anyone is shooting a browning silver? Looking for some feed-back, good or bad.

I have one. I bought it a little over a year ago. I think I gave a little under 900 out the door for it. 26' barrel 3 1/2 inch chamber. Its been a good gun. It did freeze up on me last year but that’s understandable I did drop it in water and it was about 10 degrees. It dose have a jamming problem or at least mine dose, after about 200 shells it starts not to pick up the shell that’s in the magazine. ( 2 ¾ light shells though). I’ve shot it about 1000 times or so, no real problems.

It has a jelly head choke in this pic.

DON'T SHOOT 2 3/4" OUT OF A 3 1/2"!!! its pretty cool that this thread came up becuae i actually just today decided that i was going to get a silver. it used to be called the Gold and my dad bought one a couple years ago and it has never jammed. it is a great gun. it also has a helpful little lever on the side by the forearm and when pulled back allows you to remove a shell from the chamber without chambering a new round. so if your goose hunting and a mallard pitches in you can pull out one shell without having to cycle through all three shells.

I have not shot it, but I have a friend who has one. We shoot trap together, and it seems like it has a really tight core pattern. I beleive his is a pheasant's forever edition. Does that sound right? I am not too sure about the edition, but it is a beautiful gun, nonetheless.

are you sure? my dads is chambered for 3 1/2 and he can;t shoot 2 3/4. usually if a gun is chambered in 3 1/2 you can shoot 3 and 3 1/2. if it is chambered in 3 you can shoot 3 and 2 3/4

most manufactures say that in the 3 1/2" guns, 2 3/4 are ok if at least 1 1/8 oz. not lighter....

The browning silver definately did not used to be called the Gold.......Browning still makes both guns........the difference between the two are: Silver has the semi humpback reciever design....similar to the old A-5 but less drastic......the silver does not have the auto load feature and the silver also does not have the magazine cut off switch........
I have a Silver that I got for x mas last year.......It wont eject anyting lighter than 1 1/8 oz loads but that is understandable for a 3 1/2 inch magnum....I have had zero problems with it and have enjoyed every time I have pulled the trigger......

I shot a Gold Hunter 3 1/2", and I looked at getting a Silver, but I just didn't care for them. Of course, that is without shooting one, mind you. Can't really put my finger on it, but it just wasn't for me. That is all that really matters. All the advice in the world isn't going to make it fit and feel like YOUR gun. Mine is an 870 Super Mag. Most people don't make that their go to gun. Most people I know have one as a backup or use one as a workhorse that they don't mind messing up or knocking around. I love that gun because it is always covered in rust and duck blood, and just keeps on singin' with the 3 1/2s on every pull.

Actually, you can shoot 2 3/4" shells out of a shotgun chambered for 3 1/2" shells. Problems can arise if your powder levels are too low being this is a gas operated gun. I have run about 5,000 rounds through my Gold 3 1/2" over 3 years with zero problems...except when shooting economy dove and quail loads. I have to either shoot high brass or my 20 gauge Gold 3" which is my preferred choice.
The Browning Silver does not have the magazine lock as mentioned above. You must by the Gold if you want that feature. I have shot them all and personally like Browning Gold the best. However, the Winchester is a pretty sweet gun. I am very rough on guns...sand, mud, blood, and salt water and the Gold has held up better than any other auto-loader I've put to the test.

2 3/4 shells shoot good out of them. I have one in mossyoak duck blind. The first 300 shells the lighter, cheaper shells didn't eject good but now no problem. And also the silver has no lever on the side for the single eject that is just the Gold. Also the Silver has an new valve in it to shoot the lighter shells better than the Golds. I think the valve is in the gas operating part of the gun. Love the silver has a little Higher back to it than the gold so for me it shoulders like my sporting clays Over and Under....
if its a 3 1/2inch gun it can do it all 2 3/4 , 3 and 3 1/2 my dad has a silver and loves it and he had a gold before and hasnt jammed on him yet!

I have had the same problem with weak 2 3/4 loads with my Gold 3 1/2. But man does it park stuff. No problems in the blind. I have shot Remington express steel 2 3/4 1 oz of #4 without any problems. I would put it up against any gun out there for reliability.

i didn't know that it didn't have the mag cut off. as for the auto load, the website says nothing about any auto load in either gun so i dont know what your talkin about. you might be thinking of active valve which uses gas to cycle the bolt but both guns have that. on the website they dont have any plain 12 gauge camo golds. check it out. the humpback reciever doesnt affect the gun.
sorry bout that, i thought they were basically the same (to me thy are other than the cutoff switch)
