I just wanted to know how all of you set up a jerk cord. I'm thinking of making one with about three or four decoys. Any help is appriciated

Its easy really. All you need is a cinder block, a bungee chord and some string. Attach the bungee chord to the cinder block and then the string to the bungee chord. When you get to where you want to hunt, put the cinder block in the water. You should have enough string to be able to walk back to shore or whatever. You can attach the decoys, just by tieing them to the string or you can buy some of those little gang rig clips. Ill try and make a diagram, so you can see what Im talking about:D

Ok thank you. The only problem is i walk some times when I hunt so a cinder block would be a little much any other suggestions?

Maybe you could try a sturdy piece of pipe? Jam it into the mud and tie the bungee around it that way?

Honestly purchase a "Rig'Em Right™ Decoy Jerk Rig"... You can make them for a bit cheaper, but for 30 bucks its one of the best additions to my spread, and it folds up small for easy carrying!
(the cinder block would be good for a private pond, or somewhere you wouldnt have a very long walk)

I also agree with the Riggem Right Jerk String. Its and anchor which arms fold out so it will stay put and grasp the bottom. They are great and fold up nicely into a little pouch and a lot less weight then a brick or block. You can also put 3-4 decoys on one line. You could probably make one for a little cheaper but don't think you would save more than $10 so i would just buy one, i believe they are only $25-$30 and add great motion to your spread

On the places you walk in, do you have any good sized rocks close to the place you hunt? If so just carry in a bag to put a few in and use that as your anchor point...
It's cheap, easy to carry and the bag gives you a perfect place to store the line and clips so they won't get tangled.

I've done it lots of different ways. Tried the cinder block trick, it works, I like the rig-em right system, but for very nice movement without having to work the jerk string too hard i would get this little job

Tie a long piece of surgical tubing to your gang rig, and the other end to this anchor. Longer tubing for more movement, shorter tubing for less lengthy movement. This deal also works great outside of the jerk rig for holding a large gang rig of divers in shallow water, and especially gang rigged goose floaters in the wind.

I use a BIG eye bolt to replace the cinder block. It must be in semi-shallow water so you can stick it into the mud. You can also hook it to the pole of a ROBO DUCK.

I use a "Jerk-a-spreader" it rigs up 12 dekes on a single string and comes with a stake to anchor to. I just jam the stake into the mud angled away from me at about 35deg.... Works good for me! Remember, you don't need to yank on it like your trying to pull a tree out of the ground, slow and steady will give you perfect ripples!
FYI - Late in the season, I use only 12 decoys that are rigged on a jerk and I have shot more duck then ever!

Macks Prarie Wings has an excellent setup that is light weight and uses a small flanged anchor that you drive in the bottom with your foot. Bungee attached to anchor. I think it holds 6 dekes.
One additional note, my best results come when I run my cord though an eyelet I have attached to the post of my marsh seat below the water level. This keeps the line underwater all the way to me. I just pull the cord straight up and let go. :)

You can make your own "Rigem Right" setup. Cabela's sells the mini anchors for $8 (they call them a float-tube anchor I believe). Just add your own line, bungee & clips. I also made a line holder out of 1/2" pvc. I attached my clips using Toggles, so I can adjust the spacing of the decoys.
