I just purchased a new Boaters Dog Vest. I bought it in a Large, that's what size my other Avery vests are for my dog. I can barely get this one zipped. I was wondering if these run smaller or could it be that it doesn't give as much since it has the canvas or whatever material it is that goes around for support. I'm afraid if i get an XL it would be to big in the neck and down the back. Any ideas?

jt i was in the same boat as you. my dog wears a large in the regular parka and a xl in the boaters. they do seem to run a little smaller in the boaters because of the floatation. hope this helps. maybe a prostaffer can help also...

I think your issue is that the Boater's Dog Parka does not stretch. It has the straps sewn on the inside so you can pick up your dog by the handles.

You want the vest to fit snug, I don't struggle to get them on my dogs but it's not an easy zip like it would be for me with a jacket. There should be a little bit of resistance during zipping or it's probably too loose.
Ricks right on in the difference, the straps sewn in that support the carry handles keep it from stretching like the standard vests. It will stretch a little with use though.

It does appear that the Boaters Dog vest fits best when you go up 1 size. The regular vest for my Stella is an XL, but a 2X in the boaters was the ticket.
