I am shooting a Mossberg 835 with the factory accu-mag choke with the cheaper 3 1/2 inch steel (Winchester or fast steel-1550 fps BB). When I am shooting lead 2 3/4 8 shot cheapo loads I smoke doves with no problem but when its goose season I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn. I have found that the factory chokes pattern a loose modify with the steel and a improved with the small lead. I am on a tight budget (thus the cheap loads), and the choke I think I will buy is the kicks high flyer extended since I mostly pass shoot and can't afford a patternmaster this year. My question would be if the kicks is a good choice or if there is a better one to use for pass shooting geese and ducks?

I have a Kicks in one of my 870's and it shoots an awesome pattern with Kent Fast Steel in BB's.

I know that you said that you could not afford a Patternmaster this year, but I would save up and go for the Patternmaster as soon as you can. I have shot one for about 8 years now and will shoot nothing else.

I agree with Curt on that one. Nothing better out there then the patternmaster in my mind and once you have one, you'll wonder why you didn't get it sooner.

Like the guys said save your money for a patternmaster. Also watch several of the boards, there are always cheap patternmasters for sale. I wouldn't waiste my time with another choke...

I agree with above statements. Wait and get a patternmaster. Post something on a forum you might be able to pick one up for the price your willing to spend now! There are a ton of mossbergs out there!

I have both a Patternmaster Long Range and Kicks High Flyer IC, Mod and Full chokes. The Kicks High Flyer Mod patterns almost identical to the Patternmaster Long Range @ 40 yds. out of both my Browning Gold and Benelli Nova. The Kicks also shot a wider variety of shell brands than the PM. The PM is a great choke, that is why I own one but there are many other chokes that work just as well. Kicks is definitely one of them. You may want to look into the Carlson Extended 12 gauge Steel Shot Choke Tubes. They have them in Close range (30 yds and under), Mid range (20-40 yds) and Extended range (over 40 yds). They will only run you $35 + shipping and work just as well. Have you patterned your factory chokes? What yardages are you usually shooting ducks/geese?

I am usually pass shooting geese between 25 and 40 yards, patterned the factory chokes at 40 yards; and only if the steel patterned the same as the lead I would be in business. I have found some cheaper PM on gunbroker.com but kinda like the idea of being able to return a choke at a store if need be.
