I am planning on buying some field mallard and black duck decoys this saturday at the waterfowlers weekend at cabelas. What is everyones opinion on the full bodies vs. the shells? I really would like the full bodies but i could buy a dozen each of the shells for the price of 1 mallard harvester pack. Does anyone have a prefrence for either one? any help is appreciated.

You can't go wrong with either. I like the FB's the best for the situations that I hunt, so I run more of them. I recently got a dozen of the shells and they are going to be perfect for when storage is tight or when I have to carry everything in on a long walk. Plus the shells should move a little more in a light wind.

cant go wrong with the fullbodies. I like them since you can put them on the ice with the real motion bases

You can't go wrong with the Full Bodies at all. They can be used in every situation you can think of and they do actually move more then the shells do. The shells are cheaper yes and they do take up less room. I think the best bang for your buck is to mix full bodies with shells. Can't go wrong with that at all.

I say fullbodys all the way.

If you are planning on using them just in field hunting situations, I think you are fine with the shells as the bottom half of the FB don't really stand out that much in stubble anyways.

For ice, a few decoys for the shore while pothole hunting, sandbars, etc. The FB are the way to go.

I use both then I can pick my poison or put all of them out. Get what your wallet allows for and build from there. I have active/rester/sleeper FB and use feeder shells. Just my .02

The full bodies are so versatile- I would go with them if you find yourself in a variety of situations.

Can't go wrong with either to be very honest, but I personally prefer the fullbodies.

thanks for all of the responses, as luck would have it i attended a DU Waterfowlers Party on friday night and won a half dozen full body feeder mallards, so on saturday i bought another half dozen full body active mallards at the waterfowlers weekend at Cabelas. So far i am very happy with the quality of the decoys, just can't wait for the season to get here so i can use these decoys and hopefully kill some birds over them. Thanks again to everyone of the replies.

I have both the only thing I dont like about the shells is the weight isnt enough. To get the universal motion stakes to really work . I have givin some thought as to how to fix this . But sure would like any feed back on some fixes.

i had a similar problem with my prograde goose shells. It seemed like it really took a good breeze to get them moving, so i just drilled the hole on top of the shell one size bigger than the stake that it sat on. Now not only do the shells move a little better in less wind but it is also easier to get the shells on the stakes in the dark. just my 2 cents

full bodies are just plain realism and you cant go wrong with either one, if your gettin numbers though, you can fit i think 3 or 4 dozen shells in a 12 slot duck fullbody bag

How do the motion stakes work with the shells? I just bought a dozen shells. Does the shell just sit on top of the spring? Thanks.

Yes they do jsut sit onto the stake. YOu may have take a round file and remove any extra plastic burrs. THat will allow it to move more freely and will be easier to place on the stake.
