Well, I guess I am just wondering what type of decoys to mix in with mallards for hunting ponds? Green-wing teal? Blue-wing teal? Pintails? Gadwalls? Any help is always appreciated. Thanks!

in my experience i have found that if u match the birds u have been seing in the area u cant go wrong. for example at one of my duck sloughs there are alot of greenheads, widgion, gadwall, and green wings. so those are the decoys i put out i will use mostly greenheads but i mix in the others in the spread. also i will put the teal decoys on outside of the main spread because i have found that most teal land outside the of other ducks and sometimes swim in but seldom do they. the gadwall and widgion intermingle with mallards so i put them in the main spread. hope this helps

Couple of wood ducks never hurt either, I use them in allot of my spreads.

see where i live when the season opens in october it is cold enough were the teal are already gone so we dont use teal in our spread but we use alot of pintails because we usually see them the most and we throw in a few black ducks because the marsh we hunt has alot of black ducks in it and of course the mallards and some goose floaters

Use what you see in the nearby ponds.

If the pond is dark put lighter deeks out such as pintails, teal they will show up a long ways away if its a dark pond iv been hunting one and they mallards and pintail have been sucking in better then ever WITH OUT BLOWING A CALL i havnt even had to pick it up the decoys have been doing it all. if it is light put out your darker deeks ull get the same results
Hop this helps!!
