In your state if they had a hunters vote on this law for public land that between every group of hunters there needs to be atleast a 150 yard gap between hunting groups how would you vote.....

Some of the WMA's and NWR's I hunt down here already require 200yds. between parties and they have instituted a check-in system that tries to enforce this.

I'd like it to be more like 400 yards but enforcement would be the most troubling issue with a law of this type. What good are the laws that make perfect sense if they don't have the funds or agents to enforce them?

In Ca 150 yards is a blessing. I'm not going to say what I've done in the past but some people will set up right on top of you. I now limit my public hunting.

most of the ones i see here have a very large and adequate distance. i could not imagine hunting closer than that:eek:

I would love to have a 150 yard rule, on duck opener every time we had ducks cuping in some group 50 yards away would start blasting at them

Dang right. This week has been rough. I have seen more hunters than ducks. We had a hunt on Sunday that as a teal approached our decoys and I was calling the shot, a blast from the side of us tipped it. It fell in our decoys. Gee I wonder if he was too close? We were the first ones there. We set up and still didn't see anyone. This clown made no effort to retrieve the bird. He walked to the other end of the lake and he and his partner proceded to shoot at EVERY bird that came over the lake, and it didn't matter how far they were or what they were. I was nothing short of disgusted.
I am for a space limit, however, how would you ever enforce it? Make everyone bring a rangefinder? It would be a tough one for the DNR to enforce for sure.

Yeah thats the only thing about it is trying to enforce it which is what sucks becuase im sure if they found a way alot of states would do it becuase not only is it good to other hunters but its safe at the same time. I just wanted to see what other peoples views where on the whole deal the only thing im disapointed in is people that voted no didn't have a post. I really wanted to see why that was the case?

Nothing gives a duck hunter high blood pressure like seeing someone closing in on there spot.

Everyone wants a good hunt but most people are not willing to put forth the effort. It's always been kind of an issue but seems to have gotten worse over the last 10 years. You would think it would be a common curtsy (ingrained in most hunters) to keep a safe and reasonable distance (that being at least 150 yards IMHO) but it's unfortunately not. Someone touched on it.. That being enforcement. To be honest the last thing we need as hunters are MORE regulations. :o Police ourselves and always take the high road (especially if you are hunting with kids).

I agree more space between each hunting party would def. be great..specially since hunting too close to other people makes hunting pointless 'cause you are either taking all the birds and it sucks for the..or the other way around.. :(

I'm all about putting space between parties, but here's something to think about. You wake up really early, you're the first boat on the marsh and get the spot of your choosing. You set out your decoys and wait for first light, before too long headlights are coming down towards the boat ramp and spotlights fill the marsh. One party also knows of this spot you are in, and sets up 100 yards away from you. You guys get to hollering back and forth, and neither party is willing to move. Later in the morning the game warden motors up to the area. Talks to the late party first, they complain and say that your party came in on them right before shooting time and set your decoys, refusing to leave despite them advising it being illegal to be within 150 yards. The game warden comes up to your party ticket book in hand, you say they were lying and that you guys were first. The warden now doesn't know who's telling the truth... who gets the ticket? Both parties?
If you push for a law like this, and get it. To stay legal if someone comes in on you first thing, you pretty much are forced to move, giving the latecomers something they can really manipulate and take advantage of.
Just a thought.

i assume this is for waterfowl. if so, then it is a good idea because it helps prevent hunters from trying to compete for one group of geese/ducks.

That is the whole problem, they cannot enforce the laws that already exist.
I would be for some sort of law/rule or
whatever though.

I hunt all public land and would love to have a 150 yard rule or a certain amount of people per pool like four rivers in missouri because last week during teal season we had to duck everytime we heard a shot because they were probally less the 50 yards away and we were just getting peppered like crazy

Myself, I really try to find out where everyone else is hunting and then setup at least three yards away. I find that this setup benefits us both. :D

While it would be nice you all need to read what others but especially Derek said. IMPOSSIBLE to enforce. In Idaho our resources are spread so thin the last thing they need is to have more regulations imposed that they need to enforce when they can't even deal with what is already on the books. Especially something that while the intent is excellent the practicality makes it impossible to deal with.

I would say yes, except at the goose management zone. There it is about 100, which if it was 150 there would be far to less of zones.

YES!! I definately think that it is a great idea for there to be atleast 150 yards between parties (in my opinion thats still a little to close together) but this way you wont have as much of a problem with pulling birds off of each other and creating alot of problems.
