Tried a new area out this morning with my buddy, he hunted it last year, but being in North Dakota it is new to me. He shot his banded drake mallard out there last year.

We gave it a shot, ended up setting up with the wind directly in our face, because evidently he didn't know where exactly we were. Not to big of a problem. shot a couple geese first, then roughed up a couple ducks. Day ended with me shooting my limit of geese, a drake mallard, a teal, a gaddy, then a hen pintail. The pintail wouldn't have been shot had I known exactly what it was, it came in as we were pulling the boats out and picking up, kind of a reaction shot.

The drake mallard I shot was banded, my first duck band. Also the oldest duck I have ever seen or heard of. This duck was banded in 08 of 1996, that puts it at 12+ years old, it was also banded way out in Quebec.

Pretty unreal, took some pics of the kill, didn't have a camera out there, so this is after they had been drug all over hell. That drake mally had a green tint running up the black on his tail for quite a ways, was really cool looking.

The band doesn't even have the tele number, it just says to write in, which is pretty neat.

Thank you all for the kind words.

14 years of waterfowl hunting for me, I have 4 bands total, 3 being goose bands, all banded in MN, then this one which is about the opposite end of the spectrum. Not close to where I live, but far, not a recent band, but a very old band.

Band is very wore down, but still strong, great to get it while being out with my buddy I have known for 22 years.

Sounds like a very awesome outing to say the least. That place sounds like a magnet for bling.
I shot a banded drake mallard two seasons ago and the band was paper thin, can only read the last four numbers, dont think I will ever find out where or when it was banded.

if u send the band in they can do a prosess they call etching(it is the same way u can find out the vin or serrial number of a car or gun that has been filed off) and then they will send it back with all the info and band number
